The Power (Season 1 Finale) Episode 9 Recap:

“The Shape of Power”

Allie / Eve (Halle Bush) uses her ENT abilities to stop Sister Veronica (Emily Kuroda) from revealing her identity to the feds. Sister Veronica (Emily Kuroda) goes into a trance-like state, and soon after, her eyes start bleeding. Now, Allie contends with her life at the church after this troubling incident. She has scary nightmares and feels apologetic about her actions. The voice tells her that she needs to feel guilt for what she did and be aware that this is a war where Sister Veronica is her enemy. While an ambulance takes Sister Veronica away, Allie gets mentally ready to meet a new soldier, as told by the voice.

In England, Roxy goes up to Derrick Reena’s (Edward Foy) house, who was in a relationship with her mother, Christina, before her death. Roxy believes that he had something to do with Cristina’s murder and approaches to attack him. He reveals that he is a cop who was working undercover to know Bernie’s (Eddie Marsan) shady business deals. That’s when he met Christina, and they became infatuated. However, he could not let Bernie know about it. While he isn’t behind Christina’s killing, he considers himself at fault since he could not stop it.

Anyhow, Roxy realizes Bernie’s involvement in the kill order and, thus, goes up to his house to confront him. He eventually confesses to it and then shares her EOD abilities with her stepmother, Barbara (Juliet Cowan). Before leaving, she steals Barbara’s diamonds. She flees the country to go to the United States. But her brother informs her that Bernie’s men have followed her up to New York. So, she decides to find another place as a recluse.

Daniel Dandon (Josh Charles) uses misogyny to win senate elections. His campaign video openly opposes ENT abilities and promotes its criminalization. On the other hand, Margot (Toni Collette) campaigns with her empathy and concern-driven promotional video. It also boasts family values, which she isn’t sure what to feel about in the wake of Rob’s (John Leguizamo) talks about separation.

However, Margot’s associate, Helen (Edwina Findley), and her campaign manager Cristian Vincent (Caleb Ezra), consider another obstacle in her journey toward success. The video featuring Jos’s (Auli’I Cravalho) boyfriend, Ryan (Nico Hiraga), using his EOD abilities, become viral. Caleb considers it a threat to Margot’s family-friendly image. Since he wants their campaign to be a triumph, he wants this issue to be dealt with.

Back in Jos’s school, both she and Ryan get bullied for having EOD abilities. Jos also ends up in a fight with her ex-best friend, Yuki. Meanwhile, Helen meets Ryan’s parents and proposes that he should be transferred to a summer camp that supposedly helps kids struggling with EOD.

Because of his plan to divorce Margot, Rob starts to flirt with an interviewer, Kate Hayes (Rachel Robinson). Matty (Gerrison Machado) has a direct conversation with abhorrent Urbandox, who promotes misogyny in Matty’s mind. He proposes Matty utilize his inside knowledge of Margot’s campaign against her. He considers it a fight for justice, and Matty cannot digest the fact that he is being asked to work against his mother.

The Power (Season 1 Finale) Episode 9 Recap & Ending, Explained
Auli’i Cravalho as Jos Clearly

Margot walks up to the stage for a debate against Dandon. While Dandon keeps highlighting the necessity of criminalizing those with EOD abilities, Margot holds her head high and argues back with powerful points. Dandon says that EOD can prove dangerous in social situations by sharing some anecdotes. Margot points out how it’s the opposite – how Power makes women make stronger and safer.

Even when a woman walks up to the stage willingly rejecting EOD for her body, Margot wins the argument against the deeply problematic stance of Dandon. She stays strong in the debate until Dandon brings up the topic of Ryan’s summer camp transfer. He tries to villainize Margot in the public eye to strengthen his position. It comes as a shock for Margot, who wasn’t aware of what her associates did with Ryan. She soon ends up electrocuting Dandon on the stage, thus, exposing that she also has the EOD Power.

In Carpathia, Tatiana (Zrinka Cvitesic) frees their prisoner Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh). Before he leaves, she gets her sister, Zoia’s (Ana Ularu) contact details from him. Tunde delivers the message from Zoia – ‘Pick a side.’ Later, he calls Declan (Risteard Cooper), who cautions that he must be getting followed.

While Tunde tries to flee the country, Declan goes up to the rebel camp of Zoia. He starts his interaction with empathy but soon lets his ego get the better of him. As a result, he winds up dead in the woods.

Due to the president’s death, Tatiana takes charge of the situation and sends the army troops to Zoia’s rebel camp for an attack. On the other hand, Tunde realizes that the country is war-torn, and the president’s death has caused unrest. Instead of using public transport, he rents a car and decides to drive up to the camp.

The Power (Season 1 Finale) Episode 9 Ending, Explained:

Tunde reaches the rebel camp, starts shooting a video & simultaneously streams what he witnesses at the site. He notices the dead bodies of the soldiers along the way to finally see a lake filled with their bodies. Soon after, he also notices that Declan is also dead. Not being able to digest this, he gets emotional.

Upon walking back to his car, Tunde notices a soldier burning to death. He saves the man, who says that they destroyed the tanks and killed everyone. He holds the man’s body and puts him inside his car. Then, he gets on a video call with Ndudi and starts sobbing. Zoia cheers at the success of their trap mission. During a call with Tatiana, she shares the joy of being a mother. So, turns out, as Zoia asked her before, Tatiana picked a side in the war.

Back in the US, Roxy comes up to Allie’s church commune and starts practicing her powers on the water. Allie controls Roxy’s power and says it is the doing of God. Roxy does not believe that it has anything to do with God. She fights back against Allie, which, to her surprise, works. Allie invites Roxy to be a part of their group.
