‘Virgin River’ Renewed for Season 6: Sue Tenney’s soapy romance drama starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson in the central roles has officially been renewed for another season.
Even before the release of its fifth season, Netflix announced that the show would return for a sixth installment. The fans of this series will be delighted to know that Mel’s story will continue for longer than they may have expected prior to this announcement.
The series is set to return with its new season in the Fall of this year. They are yet to announce a specific release date for the fifth season. However, considering the faith Netflix has in the story’s potential, the fans can stay assured that Virgin River will keep returning for years in the future.
Besides Sex Education Season 4, this is another exciting piece of news about the streaming giant’s upcoming release slate.
Based on Robyn Carr’s eponymous novels, Virgin River became a popular title on Netflix in no time. It began in 2019 as a drama following a nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe (played by Breckenridge), who moves from Los Angeles to a remote town in Northern California and gets surprised by her encounters and discoveries. She meets Jack Sheridan (played by Henderson) at a bar and pushes her to make new decisions about her future. As a result, she prolongs her stay in the town beyond her earlier plan of just a single year.
Virgin River is one of the rare successes in the vein of Hallmark romance dramas. Since the streamer believes in catering to the needs of a varied audience, the early news of renewal does not come as a shock either.
According to Netflix’s internal measurement, Virgin River has been a consistently high-ranking performer. Besides Virgin River, Netflix has also seen remarkable potential in some other Hallmark-style projects such as Northern Rescue, Sweet Magnolias, and Heartstrings.
