“I don’t know about magic… I always called it ‘The shining.'”
Warner Brothers have released the first trailer for Doctor Sleep, the new film by Mike Flanagan. The film is a sequel to The Shining, the 1980 horror film by Stanley Kubrick. The story is set years after the events of The Shining. Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor plays adult Danny Torrance, he is a man who possesses psychic powers known as “the shining”.
Like The Shining, ‘Doctor Sleep’ too is an adaptation of a Stephen King novel of the same name. Ewan McGregor plays alongside Jacob Tremblay, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Bruce Greenwood, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Jocelin Donahue among others.

Mike Flanagan is directing the film alongside producing partner, Trevor Macy and Vertigo Entertainment’s Jon Berg. Director Flanagan, we can say, is the right directorial choice for this film. He has plenty of experience having already been involved with the Netflix’s adaptation of the Stephen King suspense novel ‘Gerald’s Game’ and the hit show ‘The Haunting of Hill House.’
“Doctor Sleep follows Danny Torrance, a middle-aged man drifting through America in order to shed his father’s alcoholism which passed down to him in order to forget the events of The Shining,” according to a synopsis of the film. The synopsis continued with “After landing into a small Massachusetts town and with the aid of a cat, he becomes ‘Doctor Sleep.’ After meeting a young girl with the most powerful shining Danny’s ever seen, he must now face the demons of his past and the demons of the present in order to save her from a horrifying evil known as ‘The True Knot’.”
