“Copshop” (2021) is an action-thriller directed by Joe Carnahan. Who is Teddy Murretto?
The movie begins with two cops getting their lunch from a food truck, chatting about their jobs, and the gift they got when they turned 21. At the same time, not far from there, a con artist, Teddy, tries to escape in a cop car, which unfortunately couldn’t go far, and breaks down. Meanwhile, the two cops are called to a casino to investigate a fight, and while the rookie cop, Valarie Young, is at it, Teddy arrives and pleads to be arrested. He even punches the rookie cop to make sure it happens.
Not surprisingly, Teddy is tased and taken to the Green Creek police department. The cops also notice that Teddy has been shot. But he doesn’t appear worried. On the contrary, he looks assured and safe. Not far from there, two cops find the bullet-ridden car, and while they’re investigating it, they’re almost run over by a drunk driver. The driver, too, is arrested and taken to the same station where Teddy is.
Who is Bob Viddick?
We all guessed that Teddy was running from someone because why would someone in their right mind dare to punch a cop? When given his phone call, he calls his ex-wife and leaves a message asking her to take their son and go into hiding because they’re not safe. Unfortunately, trouble soon finds Teddy when the drunken man is escorted into the cell next to his. The drunken man introduces himself as Bob Viddick, a hitman, and knows where his wife and son live. Bob Viddick is famous for severing a man’s leg and beating him to death with it. It is possible that he is sent by Teddy’s employers to kill him.

Teddy mocks that Bob cannot do a thing to him while he is locked in the cell. Teddy even offers to pay back the money he took, but Bob says that the ship has already sailed. If you remember, the police have kept Bob’s insulin device, which in reality is a small explosive device. Bob also attacks his cellmate, forcing the cop to come inside and try to save the man. Bob capitalises on the situation, knocks out the cop, takes his gun, and tries to kill Teddy. However, rookie cop, Valarie, takes control of the situation. She also saves Bob’s cellmate by doing an emergency tracheotomy.
Why is Teddy on the run?
Valarie is a smart cop and knows Bob has faked a DUI to get into the police station so he can kill Teddy. She also threatens Teddy that if he doesn’t tell him the reason why Bob is after him, she will let Bob into his cell. With no other choice, Teddy tells her that he is a fixer who works with high-value people like commissioners, politicians, and handles things for them. The Nevada attorney general, who was found dead in his office, was one of the people Teddy tried to bribe so he wouldn’t create problems for his boss, but when the attorney general refused, he was killed.
Unfortunately, the attorney general has recorded their conversation, which the FBI has been using to turn Teddy against their employers. Soon, his employers found out and ordered a hit on Teddy. They put a bomb in his car, but Teddy was lucky and survived. Not long after, he was kidnapped by dirty cops but managed to escape with a non-lethal bullet wound. Valarie also gets in touch with another detective to enquire about Teddy, not knowing that the latter is corrupt and working with Teddy’s employers.
What happens to Teddy’s ex-wife and son?
Anthony Lamb, another enforcer for the mob, arrives at the police station and shoots several cops. Unlike Bob, Lamb is an unstable guy who murders without reason and for fun. Meanwhile, Huber also kills the station chief after being coerced by the mysterious man on his phone. Somehow, Valarie locks herself in the holding area, but catches a bullet in her gut. After much discussion, Valarie throws the key to Teddy, asking her to get the trauma kit from the kitchen or else she’ll die. Teddy also learns that his ex-wife and son are no longer alive, killed by Lamb.

In the final minutes of the movie, things get more downhill. Two other cops arrive at the station but are killed. One of them was Huber’s friend, and while Huber begs Lamb to spare his life, it is to no avail. As for Bob, after much discussion, he is also freed from his cell by Valarie. Bob finds Lamb and, following a short tussle, he stabs Lamb but offers Teddy a chance to end Lamb, given that he is the one behind the death of Teddy’s ex-wife and their son. However, Teddy knows that once he kills Lamb, Bob will definitely kill him. So Teddy shoots Bob first and then goes on to finish Lamb. Teddy then sets the police station on fire, and then goes to eat a sandwich from the fridge.
He is confronted by Valarie, sporting a bulletproof vest, asking him why he didn’t come back to help her. Valarie says she should’ve trusted Bob and should’ve never let Teddy out of the cell. She also informs him that she has called for backup, and soon, cops will swarm the place and arrest him. Valarie incapacitates Teddy, but before she can shoot him, she herself is shot by another corrupt cop. Fortunately, she is saved by Bob, who has survived being shot by Teddy. In the end, Bob kills Teddy, completing his contract, and escapes the police station in a cop’s car. Valarie is taken to the hospital by paramedics, but on the way, she decides to chase and catch Bob.
