Sukma (2026) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

The film opens in an old house. An elderly lady is dragging a young woman inside a home. A man falls from above with a dagger in his chest, atop a car. The elderly lady screams into a mirror. After that, the lady kills the young woman. Now Arini wakes up crying, calling her husband, Hendra, a liar for not taking his medication. Suddenly, Hendra accuses Arini of cheating. Just then, Hendra sees a man in the house, so Hendra starts throwing things at the stranger. When Arini walks in, no one is there. So, Arini gives Hendra his schizophrenic medication if not for her then for their son, Iyan, but Hendra says he does not have a mental illness. Two years later, Arini, Iyan, and Pram (Arini’s husband) move into an old house.

What does Iyan see in the basement?

As soon as they reach the house, Iyan sets off exploring the big house. Meanwhile, Pram promises to move to a better place once his career becomes stable. As they talk, the house caretaker, Mrs Sri, arrives to help them with the move. There are other kids in the area, so Iyan becomes friends with them. For the past 35 years, Mrs Sri has taken care of the house. Later, Arini puts Iyan to bed and thanks Pram for looking after Iyan as if he were his own son. There is a surprise waiting for Arini as Pram shows her a sewing machine similar to the one Arini had before. The next day, Iyan is playing hide-and-seek with one of the boys. To hide, Iyan finds a locked door and enters it. Inside, Iyan sees another door on the floorboard. When Iyan opens the door, he falls straight in.

In the basement, Iyan sees a mirror. There are sudden noises. Suddenly, Iyan’s reflection in the mirror screams at Iyan. Immediately, Iyan falls unconscious. The other boy panics and hides. Soon, Arini discovers the boy, who reveals he couldn’t find Iyan. So, Arini and Pram start looking for Iyan everywhere. Soon, Iyan is found in the basement. After the incident, Pram asks Mrs Sri to stay with them to look after Iyan. That night, Iyan levitates, then sleepwalks to the floor below. Soon, Pram wakes up and realises Iyan is not in bed. So, Pram looks for Iyan, who is slowly banging his head on a piano in his sleep.

What occurrences occur when the mirror is brought into the house?

When Iyan goes to school, Pram brings the huge mirror into the room. The mirror makes Arini uneasy. Later that day, Arini is sewing clothes, and Iyan is drawing. A visitor arrives, and it is none other than Hendra. Now, Hendra wants to hang out with Iyan, but Arini is reluctant. In a flashback, we see Hendra burn his hand seeing Arini and Pram’s wedding card. Now, Iyan wants to hang out with Hendra, but Arini refuses. So, Mrs Sri interferes, urging Iyan to go with Hendra. Unfortunately, that night it starts to rain heavily. Sadly, Hendra has not brought Iyan home, nor is he answering calls. Thankfully, Pram arrives in time to look for Iyan. Just then, Hendra arrives with Iyan. Because it is so late, Arini is angry with Hendra. They get into an argument as Hendra thinks Arini does not trust him. When Arini asks Hendra never to visit, he hurts her, so Pram kicks Hendra out.

That night, Arini had a dream of waking up on a hill somewhere with the mirror next to the bed. In the mirror, Arini sees a young woman. When Arini gets close, the woman tries to choke Arini. The dream changes to Arini in the bathroom. Suddenly, the power goes off. Somewhere in the house, Arini can hear Iyan scream. When Arini gets there, Iyan is inside the mirror. Waking up, Arini sees that Iyan is not next to her, so she heads down to see Mrs Sri rocking Iyan. Now, Mrs Sri says Iyan was sleepwalking. Later in the day, Arini is on a video call with her sister, who needs clothes for a wedding. So, they are discussing patterns. Just then, Pram arrives, asking Arini to leave the house. However, Arini’s sister is confused as no one is seen in the video call.

Why is Arini stalking Tyas?

Even Arini is confused, so she leaves the video call on to check the other rooms. Suddenly, Arini’s sister can hear Arini scream for help. Later, Arini examines the mirror when she suddenly hears a bang from inside it. Now, Pram is calling to ask if Iyan is with her, but Mrs Sri has picked Iyan up from school. Once Arini reaches Mrs Sri’s house, they chat for a bit about a photo in Mrs Sri’s house. After hearing Mrs Sri’s story, Arini asks for the old tenant’s number. The next day, Arini visits an old shop and asks the shopkeeper about the symbol and its origins. The emblem is on the mysterious mirror in the house. Another woman in the shop buys a book with the same symbol on the cover. So, Arini follows the woman until the woman confronts Arini.

So, Arini confides in this woman, Tyas, about the unease she feels after coming into contact with the mirror. This reminded Tyas of her sister Sari. So, Tyas shows the book to Arini, and the information about the mirror is in it. At home, Arini’s sister arrives, worried about Arini and to check her attire. The mirror is covered with a cloth, but the sister removes it to look at herself. When Arini goes close to the mirror, she sees a young woman. Suddenly, Arini starts hearing the words “Don’t trust him”, so Arini gets close to the mirror, followed by the sister. Just then, Hendra arrived, making them panic. The sister punched Hendra. Once again, Hendra apologises for everything and wants to be with Iyan. However, Arini is adamant about not letting Iyan hang out with Hendra. So, Hendra tries to stop Arini physically, but Pram arrives to save Arini and Iyan.

Why is Arini suspicious of Mrs Sri?

Suddenly, Hendra stares into the mirror. As Pram gets close to Hendra, Hendra punches Pram. Now, Arini arrives to kick Hendra out. Seeing all this, Iyan is angry with Arini for being mean and is unwilling to accept Pram as his father. Later, Arini tells Pram that they should take Iyan to a psychologist, as she fears Iyan may have schizophrenia. While sewing, Arini decides to examine the mirror again; the words ‘Masuk Raga Nerawi’ appear on it. Afterwards, Arini visits Iyan’s school, where she sees Hendra waiting for Iyan. Now, Arini asks about Hendra’s hallucinations and tells him about the words on the mirror. So, Hendra says it’s an anagram, and the word might be Wira Negara (a person’s name). Now, Arini meets Tyas to learn about Tyas’s family. Through the conversation and photographs, Arini learns that Tyas, Sari (sister), and their mother moved into that house. Everything was normal until Tyas left for abroad to pursue her studies. Soon, Sari was engaged and was about to get married. However, whenever Sari called, she was anxious.

For the wedding, Sari asked Tyas to come home earlier, but Tyas couldn’t. Before Tyas arrived, Sari and her mother were killed. It was said to have been a robbery, but Tyas thinks there is more to it. In one of the photos, Arini sees Mrs Sri in the background. Now, Arini asks Tyas to borrow the book. After that, Arini sneaks into Mrs Sri’s house and finds a piece of paper, which is an incantation of worshipping the dark lord. It fits the torn page in Tyas’s book. During supper, Arini asks Mrs Sri about Sari, but Mrs Sri says she was working elsewhere and another caretaker, Sukma, worked during that time. When Pram is home, Arini expresses her concerns, but Pram brushes them off. Once Pram leaves, Mrs Sri invites Arini to visit her house, promising to reveal the truth.

What’s the tale of the mirror?

In the house, Mrs Sri tells the story of Sari. Everything matches Tyas’s story, but Mrs Sri continues. Even though Sari was a beautiful girl, she didn’t meet the requirements. The reason for Sari’s death is that she did not understand that if she listened, she could have lived forever. The use of the mirror is to shift the body and soul during a lunar eclipse. Furthermore, Mrs Sri knows Arini stole the incantation page from Mrs Sri’s house. Still, Mrs Sri knows the chant by memory. Now, Arini runs away from Mrs Sri’s house just as Pram comes home. So, Arini asks Pram to drive away as Mrs Sri is a killer. When the doorbell rings, Arini hides. As soon as Pram opens the door, he kisses Mrs Sri. From afar, Iyan watches this unfold.

Now, Pram hits Arini and ties her up. When Arini wakes up, she sees Mrs Sri, aka Sukma, dancing with Pram, aka Wira Negara. Once Sukma leaves, Arini asks Pram to let her go, whilst also realising the reason Pram never slept with her. So, Pram throws the engagement ring and walks in front of the mirror. We now see an older man, who is the same person Hendra saw. The story goes that Sukma and Wira moved into the house and stumbled upon the book. It’s a spell book promising eternal life. However, they didn’t think much of it until old age caught up to them. At that time, a young couple (Sasonga and Miss Sri) arrived to see the house, so they used the opportunity to shift the souls and bodies. Since then, Sukma/ Sri has not been able to swap bodies.

Sukma (2026) Movie Ending Explained:

Now, Wira looks for Iyan everywhere but can’t find him. In the room, there is a cupboard, and Iyan is hiding on top of it. When Pram realises, he tries to climb up. Just then, Sukma calls out that the eclipse has started. As soon as Pram leaves, Iyan calls Hendra asking for help for Arini. Soon, Hendra arrives and reads the book. Before entering the mirror, Hendra asks Iyan to hide until either Hendra or Arini arrives. Now, Hendra enters the mirror and encounters spirits. Inside a cave, Arini is tied up; the ritual is in process. First, Sukma drinks Arini’s blood, then Arini is forced to drink Sukma’s blood. Hearing the screams, Hendra arrives, watching from afar. The soul-shifting process begins. Just then, Iyan called for Hendra. To save Iyan, Hendra fights Pram. Just as the soul is about to shift, Iyan uses a slingshot to hit Sukma.

Immediately, Hendra rescues Arini and asks Arini and Iyan to run away as he fights Wira. As they run, Arini slips and falls. Taking the chance, Sukma hits Iyan. So, Arini asks Sukma to take her life. Just then, Hendra holds Sukma down. Now, Arini and Iyan run as Sukma stabs Hendra. In the real world, Arini reminisces about her time with Hendra and asks for forgiveness. Soon, Arini sees a hand from the mirror and pulls out Hendra. After the incident, Arini, Iyan, and Hendra are in a house. Now, Iyan hopes the three of them can live together again. Just then, Tyas arrives with a photo of Sari’s fiancée. It is none other than Pram. Suddenly, Hendra arrives, introducing himself to Tyas. Arini has images of Pram and Hendra drinking tea in a specific way. In the post-credits scene, we see Pram change bodies with Hendra after Sukma kills herself.

The ending clearly says Hendra is Wira/Pram, who continued to use the mirror to stay young. Even Arini knows this, but is unsure how to handle the situation, as she knows how dangerous Wira is. The look in Arini’s eyes while she looks at Tyas is of someone seeking help desperately. The conundrum for Arini is Iyan’s belief that Hendra is alive and wants to live as a family, while Arini knows their lives are at risk if they stay with Wira/Pram. This is a horror story about wanting to live young, healthy, and beautiful forever. The desire that leads a mortal to go to any lengths to achieve immortality. With regards to beauty, it is a societal expectation and standard that caused Sukma to pick and choose not just young women but also beautiful ones. Even as an elderly person, you can see Sukma dolled up because of her desire to be young and beautiful. In the real world, we already have people like Bryan Johnson who are attempting to reverse ageing. So, this film conveys an important message, prompting people to reflect on mortality and desire.
