Peacock Drama Series ‘Based on a True Story’ Soundtrack: Peacock’s Based on a True Story is the ultimate manifestation of our obsession with true crime. The show leaves no stone unturned as it tries to break through the shackles and establish certain conventions on the issue. It stars Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as the Bartletts, a married couple in financial trouble. When they stumble upon the identity of a serial killer called the Westside Ripper, a conundrum leaves them puzzled. If they go to the police, someone might get famous on the back of the serial killer. Maybe through an interview, a podcast, or a book.
But what if they do it themselves? That is exactly what Ava and Nathan decide to do. The only trouble? People don’t change. And they find it out the hard way during the course of the first season. Based on a True Story is a sly satire on the culture that glorifies serial killers and sensationalizes violence. But more importantly, it is an even more compelling comedy that has some genuine laughs. There are also shades of dark humor tastefully sprinkled over the final dish.
