Dear Edward (Season 1 Finale), Episode 10 Recap:

Episode 10: Shelter

Edward (Colin O’Brien) stays at John’s (Carter Hudson) workplace while he goes for his night shift. He sees a box of letters from strangers that convey a wide array of emotions to him regarding the plane crash. While some are angry at him, some are delighted that he is alive. As a young, anxious kid, it overwhelms him. When John returns to find Edward, he rather sees those letters scattered over the ground but no traces of the kid. He calls Lacey (Taylor Schilling), who gets angry at his carelessness. However, they still decide to look for Edward together.

Lacey comes back home to see if Edward is there. She sees Shay (Eva Ariel Binder) outside her home and asks if she knows where Edward is. After realizing he is probably missing, Shay feels guilty for telling him she will stop being close friends with him. Lacey tells her that it’s not her fault. Through Shay’s suggestion, Lacey reaches the store where Mahira (Jenna Quereshi) works. She goes there and asks her about Edward. Mahira becomes emotional because the last time she saw him, she told him to stop speaking as frequently.

However, she leads Lacey to the local exhibition hall. Lacey reaches there to find out that Edward had left the place just sometime before. By then, he was roaming the town, trying to find traces of his lost family. He eventually breaks into his old family home and starts playing the piano without realizing that the apartment now belongs to someone else. It was his way to revisit his past when he could enjoy time with his family. The couple walks in with their kids and realizes that he is the ‘miracle kid’ Edward. So they let him stay there to play piano for a while until he felt satisfied with it.

Soon after, Lacey reaches there. However, instead of being angry, she empathizes with him. She takes him to the falafel cart that he frequently visits with Jordan. Until then, Edward was unsure how to tell the vendor about his family’s death. Now he finally feels ready to do so. He also makes peace with the fact that he won’t be back in that neighborhood much. Before leaving his old place, he tells the kids of the new owners some secrets about the place. So, it seems like he has finally decided to move on.

Steve (Ivan Shaw) goes out with Amanda (Brittany S Hall) after teaching her how to make soup dumplings. Steve still believes that they can get together and that their relationship stands a chance. Amanda feels she is interested in him just because she wants to get closer to Brent. As a result, instead of letting their affair move any further, she decides to end it. On the other hand, Adriana (Anna Uzele) wins the election and makes a rousing speech about standing up for those who voted for her. She does not forget to mention the impact Kojo had on her. Kojo and Becks listen to it from Ghana & feel happy for her happiness.

Meanwhile, Dee Dee (Connie Britton) is still excited to throw a party for her grief-group members. She discusses it with a priest from the local church. However, it eventually comes to the topic of how everyone else has their lives to get back to after having dealt with their feelings of grief. Dee Dee is heartbroken that she does not have one. The one she had before was due to her wealth. Now that she is broke, she is unsure how to deal with the situation. She breaks down due to all the stress, and the priest consoles her.

On the other hand, Dee Dee’s party gets all the grief group members to visit it. Sam (Dario Ladani Sanchez) joins and is concerned about how he will deal with his wife – Sienna, now that she knows about his interest in Vernon. Adriana decides to give a visit too. She brings cupcakes with her face on them, which were being used during her campaign. The counselor calls it a possible sign of narcissistic-compulsive disorder. Dee Dee gets happy seeing him joke around like that.

Later, Lacey arrives with Edward and gets him to meet with all the members. She speaks with Sam, who tells her about his decision to be with Sienna and not to break his marriage. Even Dee Dee talks with Zoe (who decides to give a surprise visit) about him being conflicted between choosing his family or his sexuality. They both gasp at how it mirrors their family’s situation with Charles. After the party, Sam goes back home to convey it to Sienna. But, by that time, she decides to part ways herself. He is left to deal with this heartbreaking revelation.

Dear Edward (Season 1 Finale), Episode 10 Ending, Explained:

Lacey takes Edward back home, and John gives him a warm welcome. He jokes that they will add a tracking chip tomorrow. They both laugh. Then John speaks with Lacey about everything he finds special about her. Due to his sweet gesture, the couple reunites after a brief break.

On the other hand, Dee Dee & Zoe are worried about their future. They discuss how they are going to plan their way ahead now that they are broke. Dee Dee says that she will start working somewhere while Zoe will keep studying, maybe somewhere else.

Later, Edward goes to meet Shay and gives her a gift. She opens it to find some random things and asks whether he decided to gift her trash. He then explains the significance of everything that he gave her. Then he talks about the letters he received from all sorts of people. It intrigues her.
