The film starts with people celebrating New Year while Morgan falls asleep. She opens her eyes after hearing the fireworks outside and then goes to bed. She checks the cupboard to see whether the gun is safe because she is all alone inside the house. Later, we see someone entering the house. He attacks Morgan, hitting her with the gun, and then binds her hands together in the back. Soon after we go back to the time when Morgan is admitted to give birth to her first child, Kevin.
Kevin is a premature baby with some serious heart disease. Therefore, the doctors start operating on him as soon as they get him out of Morgan. The chances of his survival seem pretty low. Soon, there’s bad news. Kevin dies as a sorrowful Morgan holds his dead body and sings a song. Her husband, Rodney, sits beside her to console her. They try to get over Kevin, but Morgan seems very upset as she fails to move on from the fact that she has lost a child. And that, too, her first child.
What Happens During One of Kevin’s Birthday Parties?
Morgan has realized that the only way to move on from the traumatic event of losing her son is to keep trying to have more children. She shares this with Rodney. Together, they make two beautiful kids, and the couple passes eight peaceful years. Every year, Morgan and Rodney organize Kevin’s birthday party with a few friends and family members so that they can always remember him in some way. But, after one point, this remembering becomes an obsession for Morgan.
One of these days, when Morgan goes to her meetings, she complains that Kevin is not well-remembered by Rodney. There, she meets with a guy named Griffith. The man has recently lost his wife, and she tries to console him in the best way possible. When Morgan returns home, she finds out that because she did not go to pick up the kids from school, Rodney has to leave the office early, which leads to his termination from work. Rodney seems pretty relaxed about it as he has saved enough in the stocks, and their future is quite secure.
On the day of Kevin’s birthday, Rodney shares with one of his friends that he thought Morgan would have moved on from Kevin. But with time, he finds out that she has been taking these medicines, which is making her obsessed with Kevin’s loss. Later, when Rodney goes to help Morgan with the cake, she suddenly becomes very protective of Kevin’s cake, which surprises everyone. Later, Morgan even hits Rodney and apologizes for her bad behavior. A woman named Nicole witnesses the whole scene. Before she can talk to Morgan, she leaves for her room.
Why does Morgan Decide to Work on Her Own?
When inflation hits, Morgan suddenly finds out that Rodney has lost all his money. He is basically clueless about how to proceed further. Soon after, Morgan, being a passionate interior designer, decides to open her own farm and employs Nicole as she pursues the same passion. After a period of time, Morgan’s company starts growing very well as she earns more than Rodney now and she helps with other household staff as well. Rodney feels dejected by all this. He starts pursuing his carpentry skills by borrowing money from the bank.
One day, Morgan finds out that there is an outstanding balance in one of the credit cards, which she does not even know. When Morgan confronts Rodney about this, he says at first that he needed the money for his carpentry business. However, Morgan shows him the list of where he spent most money on partying. Suddenly, a spat takes place between the couple. Soon after, Morgan sees herself down the stairs. When she opens her eyes, she sees Rodney complaining to her about throwing him down the stairs. Confusion takes place, and the following day, Morgan finds her parents confronting her for her behavior towards Rodney.
Why does Morgan Decide to File a Divorce Against Rodney?
Rodney starts doubting that Morgan is being unfaithful to him. He shows her a letter and an email from Griffith threatening him to leave Morgan. When Morgan goes to her meeting to confront Griffith, he strictly refuses the idea of contacting Rodney at all. Morgan realizes that Rodney is making these lies all by himself. However, she fails to understand the reason behind this. It is really becoming very tough for Morgan to live with Rodney as she finds steroids one night. He lies about taking them. Rodney even forces Morgan into sex, and the whole process ends up becoming sexual assault.
Morgan feels very guilty for behaving awkwardly with Rodney on two occasions now. One during Kevin’s birthday party when she hits Rodney and the other time when she pushes him down the stairs. However, Nicole one day breaks all her misconceptions about being mentally unstable. Nicole takes videos around the house on the day of Kevin’s birthday because she likes the interior very much. Soon after, she sees Rodney and Morgan quarreling about something, and when she goes to look at it, she accidentally records the moment.
Nicole shows Morgan the clip where she witnesses that it was Rodney who hits her and then says something to her. This basically proves that Rodney had pushed Morgan from the stairs, and then he jumped himself to make it look like she had done it all. Even she endured this within herself when she found her most beloved purse, a very costly one that she had gifted herself, covered in piss. She loses her anger as this incident pushes her to the edge, and she lashes out at Rodney. Even her children support Morgan in the fight between the parents. Subsequently, Morgan decides to leave Rodney. Rodney brings out the gun to stop them, but Morgan moves past him anyway.

How is Morgan Rescued by the Police?
Some time has passed, and Rodney has been very polite. It’s like he is a changed person now. The children sometimes go out with Rodney as per the law, and seeing him as such brings joy to Morgan. Morgan is living separately with the kids, and Nicole stays with her most of the time. One day, Rodney shows Morgan’s medical reports, and she finds out that Rodney has cancer. He takes advantage of the situation and spends the night at Morgan’s place. However, nothing happens during the night. The following morning, Rodney leaves. He leaves a question about whether he wins the cancer and whether they can start afresh. Morgan, however, makes it clear that she will always be on her side, but only as friends.
On the night of New Year’s Eve, when Morgan is alone, she makes sure that the gun is close to her. That gun was given to her by Rodney for security purposes before he lied about going to a meeting. However, later, Morgan finds that he is out playing golf only. Anyway, soon, Morgan is attacked by a masked man, but Morgan soon recognizes the eyes. It is Rodney who had bound her hands and then sexually assaulted her.
Quickly after, the stranger leaves, and Rodney comes with the impression that his arrival has saved Morgan. Rodney calls the police, and when they arrive, Morgan somehow manages to tell one of the officers that Rodney himself is the attacker. Now, the police ask how Rodney knows that he is required for Morgan’s safety. When Rodney fails to give a proper answer, the police arrest him on the charge of breaking in and physical assault.
At the end of the film, Rodney admits his crimes and apologizes for his behavior throughout their relationship. Morgan takes the stand and thanks Rodney for giving her the beautiful kids as she makes sure that they will never see him again. She also makes clear that if anyone loves anyone, they will never bind their partner’s hands, nor will they hit them with a gun so bad that she will end up having bruises all over her face.
