Happiness Battle (Season 1), Episode 5: In this episode, there are revelations about Na Young, her husband, and Jo. We see Na Young not being in Jung Ah’s shadow for the first time but standing up against her, though it backfires badly. Jang slowly sees Ji Ye’s true nature. She tries to find the truth behind Yu Jin’s death but gives up quickly. She is also trying to get used to these mothers’ lives.

Happiness Battle (Season 1), Episode 5 Recap:
The episode begins with Jang look at the photos of Na Young’s husband and Yu Jin. Jin Seop realizes that Yu Jin was having an affair and asks about it. Jang sends him home. Yu Jin’s husband, Kang Do Jun (Lee Kyu Han), wakes up, and his father is beside him. Do Jun’s father asks him what happened but decides to get the police officers before he answers. Do Jun holds his father’s hands and stops him.
Jung Ah and the group finish the meeting. Jung Ah tells her husband that she knew the others would be willing to invest. She asks him to prepare for the investment briefing, and he tells her he trusts her. He gets a call from Song Jung Sik (Seo Byuk Joon) and hesitates to answer. Jung Ah asks him to attend and later asks if he is hanging out with Jung Sik often these days. He says Jung Sik wanted some advice. Jung Ah asks him about what, and he says it’s his own matter. Jung Ah gets offended as her husband is not ready to tell her the matter.
Jung Ah stalks Ms. Jo and realizes that she has everything she and her friends have. She also wonders who her boyfriend is. Jung Ah asks her husband not to give money to Jung Sik as he will waste it, but he asks her not to worry. Na Young indirectly asks her husband to end things with the woman he is seeing. She tells him that he was the most handsome of them all at the meeting that day. Ji Yul and Ha Yul get ready for school. Ha Yul finds her mother’s pen driven inside one of her favorite doll’s purses.
Jin Seop keeps thinking about the images he has seen. He calls Jang, but she disconnects and tells him that she will call him later. Jang visits the police station, but she is confused when it comes to informing the police about the pictures and her speculation. She calls Jin Seop and asks him where he found the pictures. He tells her to search the place more for evidence and wonders if this is a murder case because of a love affair. Jung Ah brings one of her friends to a spa and goes golfing. She sees Jo there. She posts social media posts about how she will do well in golfing in three months.
Jung visits the apartment’s security and asks for Na Young’s parking space. Jin Seop leaves a message to Jang asking her to leave a note in Na Young’s husband’s parking space. Jang leaves a message to him asking him to meet her. Jung Ah leaves a message to Jang asking her to take her time as she will pick the kids up and visit the kids’ café. Jang arrives there to see Jung Ah talking to Jo.
Jung Ah asks Jo if she knows her boyfriend. Jo tells her that she does not. Jung Ah tells her not to use accessories as it might hurt kids; Jo tells her that she is crossing a line and that has a personal life. Na Young steps in and asks her to take the advice. She asks her if she has someone backing her because she is acting high and mighty. She tells Jo that the bracelet does not suit her and she should not use things that are not hers and throws the bracelet. Jo throws up, and Jang tells her that she needs to go, but Jo starts to cry.
Jo tells Jang that Jung Ah speaks whatever she wants, and Na Young is always sensitive about her husband. She tells her that it was not just with her but with others as well. She tells Jang that a week before Yu Jin died, Na Young had posted a bulletin on the residents’ group, which asked her to focus on her husband more. Jang sees another bulletin by someone directing their anger towards Jang, asking why they were issuing resident cards to anyone.
Jang arrives at the kids’ café to see one of the kids crying and Na Young yelling at them. Na Young tells the kids, ‘Like mother, like daughter’. Jang hears this and asks her how she can talk to the kids like that. She tells her she knows that she is crazy but has crossed a line. Jang asks her if she had anything to do with Yu Jin’s death, and Na Young is furious. Na Young asks her to leave the place and tells her that the kids are no longer part of the group starting the next day. Jang confronts her, and the other mothers step in. They also tell Na Young that she is acting strange and should not bully others. They ask her to step out and cool herself down.
At the hospital, the police officers hear about Do Jun’s progress and await a statement from him. Jang decides to visit the detectives. Jung Ah is waiting to hear news about Jo’s background. Na Young rushes to Jung Ah, telling her that she will get rid of Jang as she is digging things up. Jung Ah asks her not to do anything, and all the mothers know that her husband is having an affair. Na Young threatens Jung Ah by saying that she knew Jung Ah was looking for Yu Jin’s USB, and if Jung Ah does not listen to her, she will tell everything to Jang, including the things they did before Yu Jin died. Jung Ah is shocked at Na Young threatening her.
Jung Ah visits Jang with food and asks to use the washroom. With that excuse, she starts looking for the pen drive but does not find it. Jang finds her in Yu Jin’s office and asks Jung Ah why she keeps sneaking in there, and Jung Ah acts innocent. Ji Ye comes to take care of the kids. Jang forgets to take pictures with her, and she returns to see Ji Ye trying to open Yu Jin’s office door. Jin Seop sees a picture on Yu Jin’s social media and is shocked to see the man Yu Jin was having an affair with was Na Young’s husband. Jang asks the police officer if he will investigate. He says if it is necessary, he will, but he seems disinterested.
Jang sees Na Young’s husband’s car and runs behind it but cannot catch up. Jin Seop calls her and tells her that Yu Jin has posted a picture of Na Young’s family, which is odd as she only posts her selfies or family pictures. He also tells her that she has used the same hashtags and the hashtag reads that his gaze is full of love, and he sees the picture to realize he is looking at Jo. Jang sees Na Young’s husband with another woman and is shocked to see that it is Jo.
A private detective follows Na Young’s husband at Jung Ah’s request. He informs Jung Ah that Na Young’s husband was with another woman at an OB-GYN’s. Jin Seop meets Jang and confirms that Yu Jin was not having an affair with Na Young’s husband. He asks if Na Young had a grudge against Yu Jin as they always showed anger towards each other on social media. Jang asks him to forget it as she cannot do anything more now.
Jung Ah asks to talk to Na Young and tells her that her husband is having an affair with Jo and that she is in no position to blackmail her. Na Young tells her that if her husband’s affairs are outed in the front of the world, she will be embarrassed, but if her secret about her company being sued for plagiarism is out, she will be in a much harsher place. Jung Ah tells her that Jo is pregnant, and Na Young does not believe her at first but eventually believes her and panics. Na Young comes home, and her husband yells at her for leaving their daughter alone. He asks her to let him breathe, and she rushes to the balcony for air.
Jung Ah and the other mothers and Jang go for brunch. Jung Ah instigates Na Young and does their usual routine of messaging their husbands before paying the bill. Jung Ah suggests that they message them asking to have another child. By the end of the brunch, Na Young is upset. Jang tries to talk to her, but she brushes her off.
Jung Ah feeds off Na Young’s pain by posting an image of her daughter and Jo on social media. The episode ends with Jang visiting Na Young and seeing Na Young’s social media post of her husband’s tie with the caption -“Someone help me.” Jang immediately realizes what this implicates.
Happiness Battle (Season 1), Episode 5 Ending, Explained:
In this episode, we see the hoity-toity Na Young’s downfall. Na Young seemed like the main suspect in Yu Jin’s death, but she succumbs to attempting suicide. It is confirmed who Na Young’s husband was having an affair with, and it was Jo. Na Young’s assumptions are coming true.
Everyone is looking for the USB, and Jang is unaware of that. She sees Jang and Ji Ye trying to enter Yu Jin’s office, but she cannot grasp the gravity of the situation yet. She also is unaware of Yu Jin having some evidence against Jang. Jung Ah’s nasty side shows up as the show progresses. Seeing Na Young at her lowest, her next target will be Jang. Jang is the biggest threat, and as she did a background check on Jo, she will surely do one on Jang to dig up dirt on her.
Jang will probably have Jin Seop by her side when she is attacked. It is curious to see what Na Young’s husband does after discovering what Na Young has done. Will he be caught, and will he pay a price? We have to wait and see.
