Invasion (Season 2) Episode 3 “Chasing Ghosts” Recap:

Mitsuki’s Learnings

Earlier, in the first episode of season 2, we saw Mitsuki (Shioli Kutsuna) coming closer to establishing communication with an alien form. Now, we see her re-enter the facility to hear a chittering and growling sound from the form. After the laser ray frequency test, she informs her observations to the analyst. Soon after, the analyst shows her how the alien emits a signal once in a while. Mitsuki wonders what it means and considers its greater significance to their work. Although she cannot establish contact, she feels the alien form is watching her. Maya Castillo (Naian Gonzalez Norvind) warns her to be more cautious during her work.

Later, when analysts are running the sequences, Mitsuki notices a sudden change in the alien form. She asks them to repeat the last one and observes the changes. Turns out, at a particular frequency, this form exhibits a peculiar change. So, they all discover that the creature understands their signal. Mitsuki reviews similar instances from the past four months. She concludes that the sudden movement/change is not a dying gasp. Instead, the creature is sending an SOS out of distress. According to the established pattern, Mitsuki predicts the time of the next signal. Despite all the time that has passed by, she still cannot shake the feeling that her partner was on the ship that got destroyed. Due to the emotional burden of that loss, she is determined to find the answers since she is fairly close to knowing them.

Finally, at the time of the next signal, Mituski figures out a way to hack the mother ship. After a bit of contemplation, Nikhil (Shane Zaza) agrees to her plan – to de-cloak their transport ships and shoot them out of the sky. The downside is it will fall on Earth and can cause the deaths of several people. Nikhil considers it their ‘Battle of Stalingrad’. Then, he asks President Benya Mabote (Moshidi Motshegwa) to order all her nuclear arms operatives to shoot down the alien presence in the sky. With Mitsuki’s assistance, he manages to convince her. Then, the president tries to get all the countries to agree to move forward with this plan.

Aneesha’s Survival

To escape the captivity of the feds, Aneesha (Golfshifteh Farahani) enters a base of The Movement, with her children. Luke (Azhy Robertson), who is not over the fact that they left his father behind, finds a new home. They believe in helping people and not abandoning them. Recently, Aneesha started teaching him and Sarah (Tara Moayedi) Farsi. He believes it is because she misses her old home.

Ryder (Olivia-Mai Barett), whose father, Clark (Enver Gjokaj), helped their family, reveals that she is from a small town in Ohio. She spray paints over a van and hands the can to Luke. Clark sees Luke using it and warns him to stop before his mother notices. But Aneesha soon catches him and gets upset about it. Aneesha worries Clark and The Movement are trying to influence her child against her will. That is why she tells Clark to get them to another refugee centre.

Trevate’s Conflict

A still from Invasion Season 2 Episode 3.

Because of Trevante’s attempt to infiltrate a secret facility, he was put behind bars. Rose Callaway (Nedra Marie Taylor), who works at this place, is asked to keep a watch on him. Even though the cases of missing people are rising every single day, they expect her to fulfil just the caretaking duties instead of helping them out. It makes their subtle discriminatory attitude clear. Trevante, however, is worried about his notebook – the same one with the drawings by Casper. Rose assures his belongings are safe but asks to wait for the van to get him to another location.

Rose is concerned about the missing people. She attends calls from their relatives and provides reassurance to them. Trevante senses that she also has lost someone in the ongoing global crisis. So, he asks her to get him out so that he can help her. She believes he has a saviour complex and lectures him about the many people who keep checking if there is any news about their missing relatives. She does not consider his notebook as a matter of concern and expects him to be patient. But eventually, she cannot accept the fact that she is not being given a chance to make a difference.

What connection does Trevante consider between Calvin’s drawing and Sheriff Tyson’s badge?

It angers Rose how the soldiers see the dates on which people went missing as a death sentence to put on their tombstones. When she opens up about it to Trevante, he sees the photo of Sheriff Tyson, whom they lost a while ago. Rose mentions that he was one of the first ones to go missing. He sees the Sheriff’s badge and concocts a connection to Casper’s drawing. Eventually, he makes Rose agree to get back his notebook. Trevante shows her the drawing of the star in a circle, which looks similar to the Sheriff’s badge. The date on the side of the drawing is when Sheriff went missing. It makes Rose feel that Trevante’s theory perhaps has some logical base.

Invasion (Season 2) Episode 3 “Chasing Ghosts” Ending, Explained:

While driving Aneesha and her kids to another safe refuge, Clark receives a distress call. So, he suddenly changes the directions to help that woman. Aneesha gets frustrated that Clark is taking them towards a possible danger. But Clark had pledged to help all those in need. So, he goes ahead with helping her, while leaving Ryder in the car with Maliks. Suddenly, Ryder panics and gets out to save her dad. Aneesha’s first instinct is to save the child and bring her back in the car. But the next moment, she decides to drive the car away to ensure their safety. While Luke tries to stop her from abandoning more people as he believes they abandoned his father, he senses that more of them are coming to their side.

This happens around the time countries attempt the attack on the alien ships. All these citizens notice the ships being destroyed. So, they cheer on their success. While on one side, Rose lets Trevante leave the prison, Luke makes Aneesha stay back to help other people. Unfortunately, when they return to the car, Aneesha cannot find Sarah. In the end, we see Aneesha anguished about her missing daughter. We’ll need to wait for the next episode to learn what happened to Sarah and whether Aneesha manages to find her. Besides, we have Trevante and Jamila’s journeys to look forward to, to find the answers.
