Two years ago, Apple TV+ released “Bad Sisters,” a brilliant dark comedy series whose title was meant to be subversive. The behavior of female characters in this show was considered ‘bad’ when it slightly deviated from the ideal norms. “Nice Girls” on Netflix may have attempted to do the same, at least on the surface level. It roughly revolves around two fierce female cops who cross paths under strange circumstances. They work together to investigate the case of the disappearance of a male officer. Both act in a way that is not nice. But the script has no interest in digging deeper into these aspects. So, it becomes just another brick in the wall of generic Netflix content pieces.

Nice Girls (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
Noémie Saglio’s “Nice Girls,” starring Alice Taglioni and Stéfi Celma in the central roles, follows two female detectives who try to find the truth behind a male police officer’s disappearance and protect their city from an impending disaster.
What happens in ‘Nice Girls’ on Netflix?
“Nice Girls” on Netflix begins with Léo (Alice Taglioni), a French cop, calling her colleague, Ludovic ‘Ludo’ Bruno, who went to Hamburg on a mission and has been missing for over a week. But she can’t get through to him. Later, she meets Bat Mareschi, an ex-hacker, at a beach, tricking some tourists. He starts running away the moment he notices her nearby. She seeks his help to find missing Ludo’s whereabouts. However, her boss, Hernandez (Noémie Lvovsky) expects her to take care of a climate summit, happening in Nice (the French city). She wants Leo and all her staff to keep the attendees secure throughout this global-scale event.
Who is Mélanie, and why does she want to investigate Ludo’s disappearance?
The French police department receives a package at the airport. Inside, they find Ludo’s dead body. Leo convinces Hernandez to let her investigate missing Ludo’s case with Bat’s assistance. Instead, Hernandez wants a German inspector to look into Ludo’s death while Leo focuses on their climate event. Soon after, they meet Mélanie (Stéfi Celma) at the office. She pretends to be the German officer, Lieutenant Zimmer, appointed to Ludo’s case. In reality, she is a French police officer who was in a relationship with him. However, Leo and Hernandez do not realize it until much later.
Regardless, Leo sees Mélanie as a nuisance. So, Leo tricks her into getting punched by a hot-headed man who previously wanted to settle scores with Leo. While she fights with the man, Leo meets her father, Mamich, at his café to learn about Ludo. But Mamich doesn’t reveal any details. She enlists Bat to help her with the covert mission. With him and Melanie, she learns about a French man, Cassati, who is somehow connected to the person who presumably killed Ludo. Hernandez demotivates them from pursuing any of Cassati’s offenses because he is influential. While that happens, Bat tells Leo that he wants to be a cop. But Leo hides that she is attracted to Bat.
What does Leo learn during her investigation?
While investigating Ludo’s disappearance, Leo realizes the truth about Melanie and Ludo’s relationship. Later, Bat learns that Ludo had earlier gone to Germany to stop a bomb from coming to Nice. He wanted to stop a deal between a German man and Cassati, who agreed to be the handler. They tried to bomb the car of Sima Scott, a young, anti-billionaire climate activist who is going to attend the summit in Nice. Meanwhile, Zako & Cesar, two criminals, plan the logistics to kill Sima. The following day, Leo, Melanie & Bat sneak inside Cassati’s mansion to find more details. They find themselves in a violent shootout. Luckily, they manage to escape after hurting Cassati.
Nice Girls (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
Bat & Melanie learn Cesar Pion, who is connected to the attack plan, recently opened a garage of luxury cars in their area. Eventually, Hernandez meets the actual German officer Zimmer assigned to Ludo’s case. Subsequently, Leo decides to go rogue to learn the truth. Melanie tells her that she assumed Zimmer’s identity because he was terrible at his job. Nonetheless, together, they decide to investigate Cesar in his garage. While Bat beats Cesar, Zako meets Frederic Valence (Franz Lang), who is the director of comms for Sima. They are joined by Kim, the sniper who previously killed Ludo.
Valence is afraid that the matter will be traced back to him. So, Kim offers her help in doing so. Eventually, Zako and his associates catch Bat. Leo and Melanie rescue him. Then, the two women subject him to a brutal interrogation. However, Kim returns to the garage to shoot them. Hence, they rush out and flee immediately. With Bat’s help, they find details about the bomb at the opening ceremony. Melanie & Leo sneak into the ceremony to stop Kim from her plan. Bat notices Kim speaking with Valence and realizes his connection to a big oil company.
Do Leo & Melanie protect Sima from ruthless Kim’s attack?
Leo realizes that Valence is trying to eliminate young, idealistic Sima for his future endeavors. While she & Bat hope to protect Sima, Kim finds Melanie and kidnaps her on a boat. Leo reaches there and helps Melanie escape. They both beat Kim to learn the truth. There, they realize that a bomb is about to go off in Sima’s car. Leo, Melanie & Bat returns to the site of the ceremony. They figure out where Sima’s car went, make her realize the bomb threat, and take charge of the vehicle.
Bat tries to stop the bomb from exploding but can’t. So, they drive the car up to a cliff and jump out in the water. At the end of “Nice Girls,” Leo & Melanie protect Sima from the bomb attack. Leo gets into a relationship with Bat, who gets a job at the police department as he once wanted. On the other hand, Leo & Melanie decide to be each other’s best friends.
Nice Girls (2024) Movie – The Final Word:
“Nice Girls” movie review feels unnecessary, as it’s the same with most Netflix projects. As a buddy-cop flick, it is too formulaic. As a comedy, it uses outdated tricks to make us laugh. It feels like a mix of similar tropes with one-dimensional characters that are done to death in previous films. The actors try their best to keep us invested in their journey. But the script is so all over the place that you have difficulty focusing on its events. I’ll be honest. I struggled to remember half the details after I finished watching the film! That’s how derivative it is.
