Oloture: The Journey (Season 1) Episode 1 Recap:

The series begins with a recap of Oloture, the movie. Previously, Ehi, aka Oluture, goes undercover inside a brothel to cover a story for a newspaper she is working for. During her time there, Oluture realized the illegal activities were bigger than she had assumed, as the girls were also trafficked outside of Nigeria. Despite Olotureโ€™s efforts to not sleep with any man when she was undercover during a party, she is raped by a politician, Sir Philips. Now, Oloture leaves a notebook for her boss, Theo, before getting on a bus to leave for Italy. In one of the houses the girls are staying in, a girl named Linda is killed, and Oloture helps Linda’s sister, Beauty, escape.

The story continues in the series as Oloture is now beaten and put on a bus along with 12 other sex workers. When Oloture wakes up, she feels defeated and starts to cry. Another girl called Peju cheers her up. The girls are then put in different cars to drive to their next location. Still, the Italian trafficker is annoyed with Tony (the Nigerian trafficker) as he had promised to send 15 girls, but only 13 have arrived. Through the night the girls are then put on different bikes to cross the border and sent to a house to eat and rest. Infuriated, Tony meets Alero (the woman trafficker) and tells her what had happened with the two girls she had sent and warns her that she will pay the price for not doing a thorough background check on them.

Is Alero in trouble?

Meanwhile, Beauty is crying as she wants to get back home to her mother. A stranger gives her money to take the bus and go home. Meanwhile, Chucks (a pimp) has found another girl called Jewel after his sex worker and girlfriend, Blessing, ran away. Chucks is hoping to make a lot of money out of Jewel. Now, Alero is in trouble and looks for two more girls to send to Europe. Therefore, she visits the same brothel, but the Madam of the brothel has changed. They send her away because they know about her troubles with Tony.

After being rejected at the brothel, Alero meets Sir Philips at a strip club. At first, Sir Philips is calm. Suddenly, he reveals that he was assaulted because of Olotureโ€™s notebook, where she mentions Sir Philips raping her. Hearing this, Alero begs Sir Philips to forgive her, but Sir Philips’s bodyguards drag her away. The next day, the girls who are trafficked are put on a bus to move them to their destination when thugs start shooting at the bus, killing almost everyone. However, Oloture and Peju survive.

What does Tony do to Alero?

Now, Tony is in a pickle trying to fix Aleroโ€™s mistake, and a young man named Ade visits him with a warning. The young man asks Tony to stay out of his area of sex work, which is Casa Vintori, since it is Silver Bladeโ€™s business and they are the ones that killed all the girls. Outside the fallen bus, Oloture and Peju decide to go towards Maradi as it is closer than going back home. As they get close to Maradi, a stranger helps them and takes them inside the town. Meanwhile, Sir Philips meets Tony and asks him to make sure to keep Alero out of his sight if Tony ever wishes to continue doing business with him. Furthermore, Sir Philips tells Tony about Oloture, that she is an undercover journalist. But now she is out of the country, and they donโ€™t have to worry about her.

When Beauty reaches home, her aunt tells her that there was a fire and her mother has died. With the business crumbling, Tony creates havoc in Aleroโ€™s house and asks her to disappear since Sir Philips has a bounty on her head. In an attempt to get information out, Oloture calls the newspaper and is informed that Theo was killed because of her, and they will no longer be covering the story. Her boss asks Oloture to stay where she is. Discouraged and afraid, Oloture walks the streets of Niger, not knowing what to do.

The episode continues with Oloture and Peju in Niger, watching a football game on the field. As they watch, Peju has an eye on one player. After the game, the women approach the man, Ben and ask for advice on reaching Europe. Along with Ben, his friend Andrew joins the women for a drink. Ben tells the women to be careful as many people are waiting to take advantage of women like them. With Benโ€™s kindness, there seems to be hope to get out of Niger. The next day, Ben, Andrew, Peju, and Oloture get on a bus to reach Agadez. Meanwhile, Beauty comes back to her sister Lindaโ€™s brothel seeking help, but they kick her out. As Beauty walks out, Chucks finds her and agrees to help. He takes her to his house and asks Jewel to make Beauty pretty.

Elsewhere, Alero is pushed to the streets by her family, and she has no one to turn to. Now, the group has reached Agadez. A man named Feni helps them out, providing food, water, and shelter. Meanwhile, Jewel is done with her work on Beauty. Chucks is impressed and takes Beauty to a strip club where Beauty gets her first client for sex work. That night, Oloture confides in Feni and tells her story. Feni promises to help Oloture as he knows another journalist. There is a birthday of a small girl in the shelter and Feni takes a picture of Oloture. However, to stay in the shelter and earn money, Peju and Oloture do physical labor that goes on for days.

Where does Feni take Oloture?

One night, Feni asks Oloture to join him to meet the journalist, and they reach the house. In the house, Feni asks Oloture to wait in a room, and he locks the door. It turns out that Feni is making money from a Madam, and this is a brothel. Realizing she is locked in, Oloture calls out for Feni. But the madam comes in and tells Oloture that she has to work for her hereon. When Oloture tries to run away, she is hit with a whip.

Back home, Olotureโ€™s mother pleads with the police to find Oloture as she has been missing for a few weeks. At the shelter, Ben and the group are searching for Oloture. They suspect Feni has something to do with Olotureโ€™s absence. At the Agadez brothel, a man enters Olotureโ€™s room. However, she refuses to sleep with him and hurts him. After that, Oloture is injected with a drug.

Oloture: The Journey (Season 1) Episode 3 Recap:

The episode continues while Oloture is still locked up in the brothel. She begs the man not to give any more injections and promises to behave herself. Now, Oloture has a client who walks in with a liquor bottle. Oloture takes the bottle, hits the man on the head, and uses his phone to call Ben. After giving Ben the directions to the brothel, Oloture steals the clientsโ€™ money and calls for the madam. Luckily, Madam unlocks the door of the room, and Ben and Andrew wait at the front gate. As the madam opens the door, Oloture comes running out, and the trio escapes. Now that they are away from the brothel, Oloture reveals that Feni had set her up, and the group sleeps elsewhere before they leave Agadez the next day.

Thankfully the group finds a ride into the desert for their next destination. Meanwhile, Alero meets Ade to make a deal with him, and Ade agrees. At the same time, Chucks asks Tony to let him help. Tony gives a chance to Chucks to take care of Ade for him. That night Chucks hits Jewel and Beauty as they did not make a lot of money. In the desert, Ben wakes the others up as he hears someone coming their way, and they hide under a vehicle. It was a good move as a man comes to the site and takes a few women with him, probably for sex work.

The next morning, the group continues their journey in the desert. But the trouble continues as some men with rifles stop the van and push them onto the desert sand, looting every single one of them. In the process, the men kick and hit Andrew, making Andrew weak and bruised. However, they need to make a move on foot, and with the others helping, Andrew starts the journey.

Oloture: The Journey (Season 1) Episode 3 Ending Explained:

To prove his worth, Chucks manages to kill Ade and win Tonyโ€™s trust, which allows him to traffic women to Europe. At the same time, Adeโ€™s boss, Antonio, calls Alero to help with women trafficking. Meanwhile, Andrew is barely able to keep up the journey, but the others motivate him to move. The desert comes with its troubles as there is a sandstorm. Because of that, Andrewโ€™s body gives up, and he is dead. After burying Andrewโ€™s body in the sand, the trio continue their journey on foot. Luckily, the trio hears a truck, and the man helps them and takes them to Libya, where they are given food, water, and shelter.

However, the struggles donโ€™t end there as the man in charge asks them to pay $100 to leave on the boat. Since they were looted in the desert, they donโ€™t have any money. The only choice they have is to ask anyone they know to send the money or be sold to the slave market. Mustering up the courage, Oloture calls her mother and asks for the money. Her mother promises to send the money soon.

Meanwhile, until the money is cleared, Ben is beaten black and blue. Now that Alero is working for Antonio and has the next set of girls ready to be sent to Europe, she asks Antonio a favor to get rid of Chucks. The troubles seem to settle down for Ben as the money is cleared. The group is taken in a water tanker to the sea. Unsure how to feel, this is their only chance for freedom, and Ben, Oloture, and Peju get on the boat and sail across the sea.

In the end, viewers and the characters are filled with hope that there is a chance that Oloture, Ben, and Peju will survive once they get across the sea. However, there are many loose ends in the stories. There will probably be a season 2 to complete the story of Oloture. Now that Alero is back in business with the help of Silver Blade, Chucks will probably die, and so will Tony. The question is if Oloture will succeed in publishing her undercover story. It is a possibility that she survives and makes it back home safe and sound.
