After the big mishap in the last episode, where Rose literally killed two of Anton’s guys, Parish Episode 5 opens with the family trying to flee the scene before things get out of hand. Horse is pissed to know that his own brother and sister were somehow involved with what happened, and he will be eager to make it all right. A big truth about Gray’s son’s death is revealed as the show draws near to a close.

Overall, Episode 5 has to be one of the better episodes of the season, with the conflicts finally coming down in full throttle. The episode is tense, has the right kind of triggers, and feels like things are at stake for most of the characters. The only element that I feel is not set right is the arc of Anton, who feels like a not-so-solid side villain introduced just for the heck of it.

The following article takes a look at the latest episode. Please be advised that it contains spoilers

Parish Episode 5 Recap:

The episode opens with Gray holding his family close and trying to let the sinking feeling of what just happened seep in. This is where Rose completely freaks the fuck out and is ready to confess to killing two guys in self-defense to the police. However, Gray is adamant that they don’t because she doesn’t know Anton like he does.

The family then packs their things to escape. Meanwhile, Parish calls up Colin, who shows up with body bags that the two of them use to pack the dead bodies, later putting them in Colin’s Truck. I am assuming he will take the bodies back to the place where they had put up the last ones in a previous episode. The two friends bid goodbyes, which, this time, feels like the last one. Parish asks Colin to go to Cuba and restart his life.

Before the family could leave, though, one of Horse’s men shows up and throws a package towards Gray. Gray then sets up a makeshift system to make his house trace-free and goes around collecting memories he has had in the place. The family then leaves.

On the other hand, Horse Tongai, who has just shown up at Anton’s event (we learn that he is not just a bad guy who owns Casinos but part of the goverenance system), tries to intimidate him. However, Anton makes him aware of the lines he crossed when he tried to take over his perfectly woven system. He then makes Horse listen to his father’s call, who clearly asks him to step back from doing anything against Anton while putting Zenzo in charge of their operations.

Who was the real ‘Impimpi’?

After spending the entire last episode putting us through a series of events that pointed at Gray being the person who caused the ambush, we learn from Shamisho’s discussion with Zenzo that it was he who offered Horse’s life to Anton on being instructed by their father. We also learn that Shamisho was also a part of the entire thing because she has always been loyal to her father.

At the event, Anton introduces the newly elected member of the council, a Nigerian immigrant named Laura. In her speech, she offers safe passage for people who come for the American dream with proper documents and a place in the heart of the land. Horse is surprised to see that Anton would be up for something like this when he wishes to do something that is exactly the opposite.

We also briefly see a whole group of Immigrants arriving at ‘Kumba,’ the house of the Zimbawein gangsters with Shamisho and Zenzo welcoming them. We later see them having dinner with the people, ensuring that they will take care of their job opportunities. Shamisho and Zenzo later call all of them one by one, and in the lure of giving them jobs, they keep their passports, pretending to keep them safe.

One of the immigrants is able to point the finger at what they are doing wrong, putting them into debt so that they can’t leave, but Shamisho tries to pacify her. Later, the woman is taken to Kumba’s lodging, which is not the paradise the Tongai had promised them.

What’s next for Gray and the family?

Gray and the family arrives at a hotel in Lafayte, where he is captured in the CCTV camera, that’s about the time his makeshift arrangement back home sets the house on fire. Gray claims that he has closed all the loose ends, and this arrangement of them getting the insurance payout from the fire will help them restart. However, Mak and Rosie are still not too sure that they can trust Gray again and ask him to tell them everything about his past.

Gray describes his early days as a car thief, then forming his crew and getting into the business of doing shady jobs for people. He said that he enjoyed it until he met Rose in Chicago and decided to have a family.

What does Rose reveal about the gun?

So, up until now, I had assumed that the gun that Rose found in her house belonged to Gray, but since they are all spilling the truth, she confesses that she used this gun to kill one of Anton’s men and that she had found it in Maddy’s (Gray’s dead son) room some time ago. This is where Mak gets really furious at both her parents for not knowing what Maddy was doing before he died. She says that her parents were not present and did not know about him, and they were not present to be there for her either. Disappointed, she leaves the hotel room, and Rose follows her.

Parish Episode 5 Ending, Explained:

Are the Tongai’s involved in Sex trafficking?

The woman we saw, not pleased with the arrangement by the Tongai, is offered to go up to a more luxurious suite, but only to serve the Tongai’s high-end client who would sleep with them. This tells us that the business is not as straight-forward and righteous as Horse Tongai made it look.

Later, Horse meets Zenzo and Shamisho and tells them that he is not happy with how things have turned out and how their father has created a barrier between them.

Who killed Gray’s son?

Gray opens the package that Tongai’s man had given him and there’s a tape recorder in it. When Gray plays it, he hears a man’s voice speaking in a scared tone. It happens to be saying that he saw someone break into his truck and that he shot him. The confession means that the man killed Gray’s son.

The ending of Parish episode 5 finds a very angry Gray driving down to meet Horse Tongai to ask who the man was in the recording. Horse is ready to tell him about who killed Maddy, but he wants one last favor from him.

Now, the recording sounds pretty similar to Colin’s voice, but at this point, I am not sure. As far as knowing what Horse wants from Gray now, we can assume that he would want him to remove Anton, Zenzo, or Shamisho from the equation so that he can peacefully take care of his business again. Things are finally shaping up as the show draws to an end.
