In “The Atypical Family” episodes 9 & 10, we see a little bit of Soon Gu’s hobby and how he gets in trouble, and because of it, he hurts his relationship with Man Heum. Gwi-Ju and I-Na’s relationship strengthens after an incident at I-Na’s school. With Da-Hae’s help, the relationship is fixed, helping Gwi-Ju return to the time I-Na was born. However, Man Heum has a terrible dream about Gwi-Ju putting the Bok family in misery. Man Heum takes Da-Hae’s help to make Gwi-Ju happy, but Da-Hae has other plans to try and save Gwi-Ju and stop Man Heum’s dreams from coming true.

The Atypical Family Episode 9 Recap:
The episode opens with Man Heum having a dream about Gwi-Ju saving Da-Hae. Overhearing Man Heum’s screams, Gwi-Ju enters the room and explains that Gwi-Ju saved Da-Hae from the school fire and gave her a ring. As proof, Gwi-Ju shows Man Heum both the rings and explains to Man Heum that is what she is dreaming about. Feeling hopeful for the Bok family’s future, Man Heum looks for the lottery ticket, but Soon Gu has already taken it and given it to the blackmailer. It turns out this was a part of Baek Il Hong’s plan, as she managed to get the lottery ticket by fooling Soon Gu.
However, Soon Gu is not off the hook as someone sends pictures of Soon Gu dancing with another woman to Man Heum. Unable to process the implications, Man Heum confronts Soon Gu, who tells her that it is just a hobby and he wasn’t cheating on her. The reason Soon Gu has a hobby is because he feels suffocated that Man Heum knows about his life and needs to give up on everything he dreams of to be there for her. Unable to contain her anger and disappointment, Man Heum asks Soon Gu to pack up and leave.
How does Man Heum’s family feel around her?
The next morning, everyone assumes Soon Gu is on vacation except I-Na, who knows something is wrong. On the other hand, Da-Hae sees the lottery ticket with her family and confronts Baek Il Hong. Understanding what Da-Hae has done, Baek Il Hong assures Da-Hae that, as Baek Il Hong had promised, she would help Da-Hae when she goes soft. Realizing the danger the Bok family is in, Da-Hae informs Gwi-Ju that Baek Il Hong’s real target is Man Heum, and instead of trying to save Da-Hae, Gwi-Ju needs to focus on saving his family.
Meanwhile, Dong-Hee and Ji-Han meet with Man Heum to give her their new business idea, which will happen at the Bok’s gym. Despite her headache, Man Heum points out that Ji-Han had an affair. Since Man Heum crossed a line, Dong-Hee speaks her mind, saying everyone walks on eggshells around her because of her dreams, and Dong-Hee is no exception. In order to get the building, get married, and have children, Dong-Hee has to give up on her dreams, and since she is already on the path to making Man Heum’s wishes come true, Dong-Hee intends to follow through until the end.
I-Na goes missing
As Man Heum is leaving the restaurant, she is met by Bong Il Hong, who takes her to the sauna to help Man Heum sleep. In the meantime, I-Na is being bullied by her schoolmates. To escape reading people’s eyes, I-Na runs away and hides in the gym room storage. As Gwi-Ju looks through Soon Gu’s belongings, he receives a phone call from the school saying that I-Na left the school without permission and is missing.
The only person Gwi-Ju can think of to help is Da-Hae, and he meets her and explains the situation. Overhearing the conversation, Hyung-tae tags along as he may know where I-Na is. The trio looks everywhere, and Gwi-Ju realizes he does not know anything about his daughter. Nowhere else to look other than the sauna and home, Da-Hae comes to the sauna and sees Man Heum sleeping. Annoyed, Da-Hae confronts Baek Il Hong and asks her to leave the Bok family alone and the reason Gwi-Ju had given her the lottery ticket was to pay off debts. Since Baek Il Hong tried to replace Da-Hae with her dead daughter but never felt affectionate towards Da-Hae, Da-Hae warns Baek Il Hong to back off, and if she does not, she will make her life hell as she has learned from the best.
Gwi-Ju and I-Na resolve their issues
As Gwi-Ju looks for I-Na at home, Da-Hae arrives and sees Gwi-Ju from the future, saying I-Na is in the school’s gym. They hurry and find I-Na in the storage room and embrace. After finding I-Na, Da-Hae understands how to help I-Na, talks to her, and narrates the story of how Da-Hae was saved from the fire despite being invisible all her life. After her talk with I-Na, Da-Hae asks Gwi-Ju to only look into I-Na’s eyes without saying anything.
Later, as Gwi-Ju and I-Na are alone, Gwi-Ju looks into I-Na’s eyes, and she can read his mind. At that time, Gwi-Ju in his mind apologizes to I-Na for not being there for her, and he tries everything to be more present despite not knowing how to be a good dad. Without Gwi-Ju speaking anything, I-Na hears everything and reveals her powers to Gwi-Ju, who feels the day she was born is Gwi-Ju’s worst memory. In a flashback, we see a younger I-Na reading her mother’s mind as her mother thinks I-Na being born was the day she lost her husband, Gwi-Ju. Hearing I-Na ask her mother if she should not have been born makes her mother panic, causing the accident. Now understanding how I-Na feels, Gwi-Ju hugs her and assures her that I-Na’s birth was the best thing that could have happened to him.
What dream does Man Heum have?
At the sauna, Man Heum wakes up and tells Baek Il Hong that she dreamt Baek Il Hong was hugging her grown-up daughter, who she thought was dead. In a flashback, we see Da-Hae had given her the idea to use Baek Il Hong’s daughter as a weapon to get an upper hand on Baek Il Hong. Meanwhile, Gwi-Ju teaches I-Na how to ride a bicycle, and seeing her ride it by herself, Gwi-Ju and Da-Hae rejoice.
After riding the bike for a while, I-Na is walking, and Joon-woo stops her and gives her an old pair of glasses. When I-Na tries to run away, Joon-woo asks if she hates him so much, to which I-Na confesses she likes Joon-woo. In the park somewhere, Gwi-Ju confesses to Da-Hae that he loves her and intends to protect his family with his life. Before kissing Da-Hae, Gwi-Ju says his family includes her. As they are kissing, Man Heum has a terrible dream and runs to find Soon Gu at the pub and tells him that Gwi-Ju is going to die.
The Atypical Family Episode 10 Recap:
The episode begins with Gwi-Ju and Da-Hae on a road trip, bickering about a film. To confirm who is right, Gwi-Ju goes back in time. By the time he comes back, the car is hanging by the bridge as they have had an accident, and Da-Hae is missing. The scene takes us back five days before the accident when Da-Hae is welcomed into Bok’s family again and accepted as a family member.
In the next scene, we are transported back seven days prior to the lunch with the Bok family, and Man Heum tells Da-Hae that Gwi-Ju will die trying to save her from the fire. Shocked by the information, Da-Hae wants to do everything she can to save Gwi-Ju, but Man Heum assures her that her dream will come true and insists on scamming Gwi-Ju one last time.
Gwi-Ju, Da-Hae, and I-Na spend quality time together
Meanwhile, at school, a number of students, along with Hye-rim, are called to meet with the teacher to find out who had locked I-Na inside the gym’s storage room. All the other students assure the teacher it is Hye-rim, and Hye-rim is let off easily as I-Na did not intend to punish the student. Later, the other students say mean things about Hye-rim, and Hye-rim asks I-Na if she believes her. To which I-Na tells Hye-rim that she had to do a better job in hiding her feelings and leaves with Joon-woo.
Meanwhile, Gwi-Ju, Da-Hae, and I-Na ride bicycles and go to the photo studio to get cute pictures of themselves taken, spending an entire day having fun. Later that night, Gwi-Ju spends the night with Da-Hae in her room, and Da-Hae suggests going on a road trip. At the same time, in the sauna, Baek Il Hong asks Hyung Tae to prepare something to give Da-Hae a proper farewell.
Gwi-Ju is depressed again
The scene cuts to the day of the accident as Gwi-Ju and Da-Hae are headed to the beach. Since Da-Hae is cold, Gwi-Ju gives Da-Hae a jacket, and they reminisce about the time Da-Hae bought that jacket. After that, Gwi-Ju goes back in time to check the color of the cardigan worn by an actor in the film, and as soon as he vanishes, Da-Hae notices a black car following them, and she swerves her vehicle. Coming back from the past, Gwi-Ju discovers they have met with an accident, and Da-Hae is missing. The cops are called, and the search for Da-Hae begins. The only thing the cops find is the jacket Da-Hae was wearing.
After the incident, Gwi-Ju takes to drinking as he is depressed and finds it difficult to go back to the past. The Bok family wonders what to do, and Dong-Hee expresses that despite being sorry for Da-Hae, she is glad Gwi-Ju can’t use his powers. Hearing this, Man Heum gets an idea and talks to Gwi-Ju that the Bok family losing all their powers is a blessing in disguise and they should work towards living in the present. On the other hand, Dong-Hee has lost weight and is getting married in a week to Ji-Han, who is cheating on her.
How does I-Na help Gwi-Ju?
Determined to find answers, Gwi-Ju visits the scrapyard to find the car and get more clues. However, Dong-Hee and I-Na arrive, and Dong-Hee tries to convince Gwi-Ju to move on. After Dong-Hee leaves, I-Na talks to her father, saying many things are different compared to the time her mother died. To begin with, Da-Hae helped Gwi-Ju and also helped them get closer together, so Gwi-Ju had to go back to the past and help Da-Hae as I-Na is sure Da-Hae is alive. Having his daughter’s trust and support, Gwi-Ju goes back to the past and tells Da-Hae about the accident. However, after his return, he realizes that nothing has changed, and both Gwi-Ju and I-Na realize Da-Hae knew about the accident all along and yet went ahead with it.
To help her father and Bok’s family, I-Na visits the sauna and speaks to Hyung-tae, who at first dismisses I-Na. However, Baek Il Hong gets suspicious and checks Hyung-Tae’s phone but it does not have any clues. Still, Baek Il Hong is not convinced and asks Hyung Tae to take her to the beach he visited after taking care of some business. Outside, I-Na is still waiting, and Hyung Tae looks into I-Na’s eyes to let her know where Da-Hae is. Elated, I-Na rushes to Gwi-Ju to inform him about Da-Hae’s whereabouts and asks him to find Da-Hae before Baek Il Hong finds her.
How did Da-Hae plan the accident?
In a flashback, we see Da-Hae’s conversation with Man Heum, where Da-Hae says making Gwi-Ju happy will not help, and she intends to pull the biggest and the last scam on Gwi-Ju to make him miserable. To make her plan work, Da-Hae takes Hyung Tae’s help and asks him to follow them as they are on their way to the beach. Da-Hae asks Hyung Tae to use the time when Gwi-Ju disappears to pull the scam. Hesitantly, Hyung Tae agrees as he realizes that if Gwi-Ju does not save Da-Hae, there is a chance she will disappear forever.
Just as they planned, as Gwi-Ju disappears, Hyung Tae arrives and positions the car to make it look like an accident, and Da-Hae throws her jacket to make it convincing that Da-Hae has died. As Da-Hae throws the jacket into the water, she wishes Gwi-Ju would be miserable so he won’t be able to use his powers to go back in time and save Da-Hae.
The Atypical Family Episode 10 Ending Explained:
Why did Da-Hae fake her death?
At the beach, Da-Hae sees pictures of I-Na and Gwi-Ju while a kid insists the people in the photo are Da-Hae’s family, but Da-Hae assures the kid she won’t be seeing those people again. As Da-Hae is seeing the picture, Gwi-Ju overtakes Hyung Tae to reach the beach and find Da-Hae. Managing to reach the place before Baek Il Hong, the kid tells Gwi-Ju that Da-Hae is at the beach. Rushing, Gwi-Ju calls out to Da-Hae, and as she turns and sees Gwi-Ju, Da-Hae starts running away.
However, Gwi-Ju catches up with her and asks her what is going on, but she is no longer able to hide the truth. Da-Hae tells Gwi-Ju that he is about to die and that she would rather have him live, even if it means being depressed, than lose him forever. Hearing this, Gwi-Ju says he loves Da-Hae and kisses her. Meanwhile, I-Na tells the Bok family where Gwi-Ju is, and Man Heum loses her balance; knowing what is to come, I-Na takes the chance and looks into Man Heum’s eyes and realizes Gwi-Ju is going to die.
In the end, Gwi-Ju finds Da-Hae, and it seems like, as predicted by Man Heum, Gwi-Ju will probably die unless Man Heum has a hazy dream like she had before when she dreamt of Da-Hae, and the dream may come true. Now Baek Il Hong suspects something is wrong, and if she finds Da-Hae, then Da-Hae is going to be in a lot of trouble, considering it seemed like Baek Il Hong wanted to kill Da-Hae for walking out on her, and she won’t hesitate to do it again. However, in the finale episode, there is a chance that the Bok family, Grace, and Hyung Tae, will come together to end Baek Il Hong’s con work.
