The Big Door Prize (Season 2 Finale) Episode 10 “Deercoming” Recap:

After learning about Alice’s (Justine Lupe) Morpho vision, Dusty (Chris O’Dowd) returned to Mr. Johnson’s (Patrick Kerr) store to clear his doubts about his vision. However, during his attempt to do so, he ends up breaking the machine. In the end, he sees a message that says, ‘Please See Guide.’ But Mr. Johnson recalls receiving no guide with the machine. While they are in the middle of finding the solution, Trina (Djouliet Amara) and Jacob (Sammy Fourlas) arrive there to speak with Dusty about their plan of moving in together. But they soon realize that it’s not the right time.

Trina tells Jacob to speak with Beau (Aaron Roman Weiner), claiming her parents agreed to let her stay with Jacob. Then, she leaves, saying she is going to meet Cass (Gabrielle Dennis). Instead, she runs back to Jacob’s house to find Kovac’s Morpho card. Kovac’s result says ‘Guide.’ So, she returns to the store and hands over the card to Dusty. She tells him that she swapped it with a blank card. Right after, Jacob arrives there and realizes that Trina took Kovac’s card despite him telling her not to do so. So, he gets upset and leaves her on her own.

Hana’s Visit to the Old Bar

As the Deercoming march begins in Deerfield, Izzy (Crystal Fox) prepares for her presentation. Along the way, she notices Hana’s (Ally Maki) lackluster presentation for the Bedford Bar. Hana tells Reuben (Damon Gupton) that she saw a white deer, even though people claim that the deer had vanished from their town. She recalls seeing it in front of her car when she was trying to leave the town. The deer made her turn back. However, she hasn’t yet checked her Morpho machine result or seen her vision. She feels she should have used it in the bar where she worked before.

Reuben believes the machine might still be in that bar and may not have just followed her to the Deerfield. Subsequently, Hana decides to return and check it with Rueben. The visit brings back Rueben’s painful memories. Then, they break into the bar. But the Morpho machine is not there. Reuben asks Hana why she had not used the machine before to learn about her potential. She recalls how her father always spoke about her life’s potential but never helped to achieve it. So, she purposefully stayed away from anything that he construed as a help. On the floor, Reuben notices a package meant for Hana. Inside, Hana sees a tape recorder that brings back some of her memories.

Cass’s Self-Discovery

The Big Door Prize (Season 2 Finale) Episode 10
Chris O’Dowd in “The Big Door Prize,” now streaming on Apple TV+.

Cass prepares a whole song-and-dance sequence with Nat (Mary Holland), dressed as meatballs, to promote the restaurant. Later, she suggests Giorgio (Josh Segarra) use this opportunity to make a big announcement. She thinks they should begin home delivery for meatballs through a food truck. Giorgio had always been against the idea of food delivery because he wanted to provide an experience in his restaurant. But he accepts Cass’s idea of a meatball-mobile and agrees to the change. Suddenly, he decides to propose to Nat, and she agrees.

Nat loses her voice, screaming in excitement about her wedding, and can’t sing. So, she asks Cass to do the presentation alone. Right after, Dusty walks out of Mr Johnson’s store and jokes about Cass’s costume, which upsets her. Then, he ends up talking about him being in Alice’s vision and about being confused. Cass asks if he is confused between her and Alice. She realizes that he is still hung up on Alice and admits that things are not fine between them even though they pretend like they are. Once again, he makes a snarky remark. So, she confronts him for it and refuses to let them make her feel down.

The Big Door Prize (Season 2 Finale) Episode 10 “Deercoming” Ending Explained:

During the Deercoming festival, Freya (Melissa Ponzio) arrives there to cheer up Izzy for her parade. But Izzy treats her like any other constituent and doesn’t show affection. So, Freya gets justifiably upset. By then, Izzy had learned the value of Freya’s presence in her life and her unconditional acceptance. Therefore, she bails on her Deer parade show to spend time with Freya. Meanwhile, Cass presents the new plan for the restaurant to the people. While doing so, she takes subtle digs against Dusty.

After Cass’s presentation, Beau comes to speak with her about Trina & Jacob’s plan. He assumed that Cass approved it. But Cass had no idea about it. Suddenly, it dawns upon Cass that she will be left alone if Trina also leaves home. So, she finds Trina and requests her not to leave. Cass reveals that she can’t be with Dusty anymore and needs more time on her own. Trina was already dealing with issues in her relationship with Jacob. So, she agrees to stay with Cass. By the evening, Dusty returns to the store to use Kovac’s card on the Morpho machine. Outside the store, he sees a white deer like the one Hana saw before leaving Deerfield.

What happens after Dusty follows ‘the Guide’?

On the tape recorder, Hana listens to a conversation between herself and her father back when she was a kid. Meanwhile, Dusty inserts Kovac’s ‘Guide’ card in the Morpho machine. It shows him a vision with his animated version, followed by everyone in the town. The characters fill up the screen, and then they all vanish. Right after, he sees a message asking if he wishes to ‘Continue.’ Dusty says Yes. Right after, a butterfly starts flapping its wings on the screen. Moments later, Dusty finds himself stuck inside the machine’s blue world. On the other side, he notices a figure walking toward him.

Considering the ambiguous ending, the show will likely return for the next season. Let’s hope Apple TV+ doesn’t axe it, and we get another season.
