The Crowded Room Episode 4 Recap:

Episode 4: London

As mentioned earlier, Danny (Tom Holland) got on a plane to go to London. According to what he tells Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), Yitzhak (Lior Raz) managed to acquire the passport and plane ticket for him. During his travel, he kept having frightening flashbacks of the Rockefeller Centre shooting.

Danny finally reaches London and walks around with fearful expressions. He keeps feeling that someone is keeping a watch on him. He also keeps avoiding any attention from the Feds.

Hearing these details, Rya wonders why Danny went straight to London after the traumatizing shooting incident. He says he did so because Yitzhak told him to. Rya questions how he could so quickly acquire Danny’s passport if Danny had not left the country prior to that. All Danny can say is that Yitzhak is well-connected.

In London, Danny calls a number from the airport to speak with Pete Sullivan but cuts the call before anyone can answer. While telling this story to Rya, Danny says that his father (Pete) left him and Adam when they were fairly young. So Rya believes that Yitzhak fulfilled that role in Danny’s life.

Anyhow, in London, Danny somehow manages to reach the address that Yitzhak gave him. It is the office of a travel agency. Danny speaks with the receptionist, who says that no man by the name of Pete Sullivan works there. Then suddenly, Jack Lamb (Jason Isaacs) walks out to reveal that Pete used to work with him. He also recognizes Danny without any need for an introduction.

Jack takes Danny to a bar and ordered a few drinks. Danny is curious. He keeps asking questions about Pete. Jack says that Pete worked with him in the back room of that agency. But he has not spoken with Pete in years. For some reason, they parted ways since a deal did not work out for them. Later on, Pete tried to keep his distance from London.

Jack wonders why Danny traveled all the way to England to know details about Pete. Danny speaks about Yitzhak having sent him. Jack remembers Yitzhak Safdie from his past.

While Danny tells these details to Rya, she questions whether he is making them up. How wild of a coincidence is it otherwise, right? How could his father, a new neighbor, and his father’s business partner know each other? Hearing her doubts, Danny suddenly gets defensive about his story. So, Rya lets him share whatever he wants to.

At the time, Jack asked Danny why he is on the run and offered help. While he decides to take Danny to a hotel room, a stranger from another table walks up to Danny and mocks him. That man asks Danny to leave immediately but Jack is not one to listen to such things. He walks up to that man and intimidates him.

Eventually, Jack walkes Danny up to a hotel. Danny sees Jack noticing a man going away in a cab. Then once he goes to his room, Jack speaks from a payphone with Pete – saying that he put the kid to sleep.

But Rya wonders how a person can hear details of that conversation from such a distance. It does not matter to Danny. He says that he learnt it. Once again, Rya lets Danny go on with his story.

In the past, Danny wakes up fairly late the next morning. He sees a note left by Jack and rushes to reach that place. Jack orders fish and chips for him and gives the waitress, Sheila (Colleen Litchfield), a handsome amount as a tip.

Afterwards, while walking around, Jack asks a strange question to Danny – if he is hit in the chest by an arrow, will it hurt? And what if it hits again? Jack explains why he asked that. According to a Buddhist lesson, the first arrow will hurt because one cannot avoid it. It is because of pain. But the second will be because of anxiety or fear. “It’s the story we tell ourselves about it,” he says.

Jack then tells Danny to be more confident and not remain as meek as he is. When Danny recalls this story, Rya sees Jack filling the gaping hole in Danny’s heart, yearning for a father figure. Hearing that, Danny suddenly gets angry at her possible insinuation that he is making all the terrible things happen.

Anyhow, Jack later takes Danny to have a cup of tea. He says that a man named Reggie Silver owed Pete a lot of money. In the past, Pete had apparently run into an issue with the authorities. That’s when Pete left London, and Reggie got away with the money. Jack states that getting that money will open doors for other options for Danny.

Because of Jack’s advice, Danny goes to a pub to meet Reggie. He asks for his dad’s money back. He mentions that Jack sent him but does not know Jack’s last name. Since Danny does not back off, Reggie’s men beat him and throw him out. Then, Danny tries calling Jack but does not get a response. He goes to all the places they went to together but fails to find Jack.

Back in his room, Jack shows up at the door. Danny thought that Jack ditched him since he could not get the money back. Jack tries to calm him down. He expects Danny to consider it as a victory for having stood up for himself. He then advises Danny to go back home. As a result, Danny returns to the US, to the ghost house. But he does not find either Yitzhak or Ariana in there.

The Crowded Room Episode 4 Ending, Explained:

Danny says that Yitzhak and Ariana were not at the house when he returned from London. Rya wonders why they both would leave without taking their stuff. Danny has no answer for it. At the time, he just burnt his passport and the diary where he had made paintings of these people. That’s when he heard police sirens from the outside. He walked out, and the Feds arrested him.

Rya directly asks him why Yitzhak and Ariana would leave like that. Danny suddenly pulls his chair right next to Rya. He sits intimidatingly close to her and tries to justify all the details he shared before. She asks about Adam, and he says that they already spoke about it. Since she keeps asking him despite the responses, he asks to get out of that interrogation.

In the end, we see Rya walking back to the room to find Jack Lamb sitting in the chair where Danny was sitting before. But she does not act surprised. Jack mentions that he made Danny come back to her. She carries the dialogue on as if it is absolutely normal. Is Rya trying to get details out of Danny by using this way of interrogation? Perhaps. Let us wait for the next episode to understand how the story unfolds.
