The Power (Season 1), Episode 6 Recap:

Episode 6: Sparklefingers

The episode begins with the male chauvinist named Urbandox who influences men through his online platform. He uses an anonymous identity to keep inciting men to talk against the EOD Power. He wants men to seek control back from the women and be against those like Senator Margot Cleary-Lopez (Toni Collette). Margot and Rob’s (John Leguizamo) son – Matt (Garrison Machado) is still under Urbandox’s influence. It looks like many other men are just influenced by this misogynist’s inciting rhetoric. We notice a man looking at Margot from a distance.

Since their last fight, Rob and Margot started sleeping in different beds. He tries to end this argument. She wants him to apologize for leaking confidential documents, that, if traced back to them, can ruin both their careers. She feels bad that he did not consider the danger before taking such a step. He says that he did it only out of good intentions.

Later, Rob meets his reporter friend, Declan Blease (Risteard Cooper) to discuss his article. Declan assures that he won’t let it get traced back to Rob. However, Rob is worried about the death threats. He talks about how Declan will probably get an award like Pulitzer for getting the ugly truth out, but he and Margot will lose their jobs.

Suddenly, an angry man in the bar takes out his rage on a barmaid. She refuses to let him behave arrogantly and bestows upon him an electric shock. As a response, he flashes a Taser in her face and says how men are being threatened by women with the EOD Power. So, Declan and Rob, both get a look into the real-life implications of Urbandox’s influence.

Margot goes to her office, much more energized. She tells her associate, Helen (Edwina Findley) that she now has this power. Helen gets worried for her safety since another woman she knows got fired for having the Power. Anyhow, Margot decides to keep it a secret. In the office, she sees a huge pile of letters from people who are angry at her recent speech and decision. She is receiving death threats and also a dog poo in her mail. Turns out, she keeps hurting the Urbandox supporters with her opinion about gender equality.

Unfortunately, another challenge awaits Margot in the form of a test. Daniel Dandon (Josh Charles) decides to mandate an EOD power test for all the government staff. He suddenly decides to take this unlawful decision for his personal gain in his political career. Helen had warned Margot about this before. It just shows what length a hurt fragile male ego can go to.

Because of Dandon’s decision, Margot is forced to take a test. She was worried since she has the power. Helen tells her according to her evidence-based study that someone can cheat this test. You need a high pain threshold to do that. Margot was not so sure about it. But after going through the test, she manages to pass. We get a look into how women have high pain thresholds in their daily lives.

Before leaving the room, Margot warns Dandon that she will get back to him about this and then plans to take a major political decision. She decides to run for Senate against Dandon. Right after, she gets out of the building and takes out all her anger by destroying a park bench by electrocuting it.

In Nigeria, Tunde Ojo (Toheeb Jimoh) attends one of his friend’s weddings. This friend has cold feet upon learning that his soon-to-be-wife has EOD power. He plans to break the wedding. Tunde convinces him not to do so and says how this power is a way toward equality. The friend talks against it, but Tunde stands by it. Tunde hears a thump on the window and feels threatened. His PTSD symptoms appear to be related to his memories of the cruelty in Saudi Arabia.

Tunde soon meets Ndudi (Heather Agyepong) and shares how his work trip to Saudi Arabia has improved his worldview. She talks about her future plans of starting a coalition in Nigeria to dismantle the rising corruption in the country. Ndudi also reveals that she  has the Power. Later, she and Tunde sleep together.

In London, Roxy Moke (Ria Zmitrowicz) feels terrible for her step-brother, Terry’s death. While she went to take revenge on her mother’s murderers, Terry died because of gunshot wounds. She blames herself for his passing. Her stepmother, Barbara makes her feel even more guilty about it. Later, her father, Bernie (Eddie Marsan) takes her to a client and asks her to scare him with her power. She refuses to do so, which makes him angrier.

Jos (Auli’I Cravalho) is happy about her new relationship with Ryan (Nico Hiranga). However, when they were having sex, he stops midway. She feels hurt and rejected by his action. Later he visits her home and reveals that he is intersex but identifies as a man. Then he shows that he also has the EOD power because of the high oestrogen levels in his body. He says that he got it from her around a school locker. Jos realizes that he kept it a secret from her despite being in a relationship after he got the Power and gets angry at him.

Later that night, Margot asks for all the family members to join her for a meal. Matt feels strange since they rarely have a family dinner and asks if she and Rob are getting a divorce. The couple puts their doubts to rest. Then, Margot announces that she is going to run for Senate. Jos supports her decision. But Matt says that he won’t vote for her even if he is not even the eligible age for voting. They all realize that he is under the influence of Urbandox’s opinions. They try to talk some sense into him. But it ends up making him even more angry.

He doesn’t and Margot wants it to stay that way since him knowing it can hurt her chances in the elections. Suddenly, a man walks up to Margot with the same T-shirt with a jacket over it. Turns out, he wore it to get inside the room and he is a staunch Urbandox supporter. He is the same man we see eyeing Margot from a distance. He approaches Margot’s podium and then sets himself on fire in protest against her views. It gives us a look into the misogynist influencer’s harmful supporters.
