Bad Monkey Episode 8 “The Russian Mob Is Very Active in Key West” Recap:
Why did Pestov and his men want to kill Yancy?
The episode begins with Yancy’s place surrounded by armed men, clearly aiming to kill our protagonist. As the men bombard the house with gunfire, Yancy and his father quickly take control of the situation. It turns out that Pestov was hired by Yancy’s realtor neighbor, who didn’t realize the plan was to kill Yancy due to their ongoing feud. Yancy grabs a gun from one of Pestov’s men and hits a bullseye on the yellow house to send a message to his neighbor: he won’t be so easy to kill.
The following day, before leaving, Yancy’s father advises his son to let go of the past and stop chasing his luck trying to be a detective and should seriously pursue Rosa, who brings him great joy. Yancy listens to the advice, but we know his conscience works a little late, so we’ll see just how much attention he paid to his father’s words.
Next, we find a frustrated Bonnie, upset that Cody’s parents don’t want to pursue the case, while Detective Russell went rogue to put a pedophile behind bars. To Bonnie’s dumb luck, despite her desperation to start fresh—even if it means going to jail—the court has refused to pursue her case any further and won’t incarcerate her.
Meanwhile, after Ya Ya leaves Gracie to deal with her regrets and bad actions, it seems that Gracie has no one besides Egg. She joins hands with Nick and Eve as the Striplings buy a new yacht to impress investors in hopes of kick-starting their resort construction. During their meet-up, Gracie, very ‘gracefully,’ steals Nick’s expensive watch, hoping it will provide her with easy cash.
Why did Bonnie burn the yellow house?
At the same time, Neville observes how the Striplings are moving forward with their plans, spending money and troubling more locals, with Gracie and Egg helping them in their shady dealings. He mentions this to Yancy over the phone, who has now joined his station as a detective. Yancy advises Neville to keep an eye on the couple since it’s the least they can do, as the court won’t take their case due to ‘insufficient evidence.’
We briefly see Yancy meeting with Director Rhodes, who is in charge of Yancy’s petition for Nick and Eve’s arrest. Despite Rhodes trying to dodge him, Yancy’s continued attempts to push Rhodes to pursue the case are in vain. It seems he’ll have to do the job himself instead of relying on a collared authority to do their only job.
Eve is desperate to get quick cash to start her dream project—owning a resort and profiting off the locals. However, when most of the locals show little interest in investing in their plans, Eve suggests that Gracie talk to her friend, Asia, who has been causing the couple trouble ever since learning that Gracie sold them a piece of land.
Back at Yancy’s place, we see Rosa and Yancy enjoying a lazy evening when they suddenly hear a loud blast outside. For Yancy, it’s a dream come true as he watches the yellow house go up in flames. We soon realize that the yellow house by the beach, an eyesore for most locals in the Keys, Florida, is burning because Bonnie, who we earlier saw buying 20 cans from a local shop, has set it on fire. Since the police wouldn’t take her away and put her in jail, this was her way of starting fresh. As she bids Yancy and Rosa goodbye—what seems like a permanent farewell—she also blesses the couple with happiness.
How do Yancy and Rosa plan to scam Nick and Eve?
Next, we see Caitlin reaching out to her father, who is thrilled to hear from her. Caitlin tells him that her church has been encouraging her to embrace forgiveness, and this is her way of reconnecting with him. She also mentions that she has a friend who is very interested in investing in his resort property, suggesting he get in touch with her. While Eve is unhappy about Nick reconnecting with Caitlin, she chooses not to express her annoyance at his request.
However, we see Yancy and Rosa at Caitlin’s place, where Caitlin had called her father because the duo believes they can get Nick and Eve arrested with their scheme. Their plan is for Rosa to go by the name Rosalba Ramos, posing as someone interested in buying Nick’s land entirely in cash. ‘Rosalba’ will claim she needs two months to arrange the money, but if the Striplings are in a hurry, they can come to Miami to collect it. This way, Yancy can have them arrested by the Miami police, as the Striplings will be under Miami’s jurisdiction at the time of the deal.
On the other hand, we find Gracie not only losing her only best friend, Asia, after learning that Eve sent Egg to destroy her friend’s boutique to silence her. After a lot of thinking, she calls Ya Ya, who has been staying away from her. Gracie tries to reconcile with her grandmother, but Ya Ya refuses to do so unless Gracie corrects her path of wrongdoing.
Rosa and Yancy arrive in Andros, where Nick and Eve have been hiding. After settling into their hotel room, the couple heads to the best food option available on the island. At the restaurant, Rosa and Yancy spend the entire day drinking with a friendly man, unaware that he is Claspers. Once they realize who he is, Yancy subtly saves his contact details on his phone in case he needs to pursue him further regarding his case. Claspers, a very talkative and needy kind of guy, doesn’t know about Rosa and Yancy and takes a picture with them as a memory to hang on the restaurant wall.
Bad Monkey Episode 8 “The Russian Mob Is Very Active in Key West” Ending Explained:
Will Nick and Eve discover Yancy and Rosa’s plan to catch them?
The following day, as planned, Rosa dresses up and presents herself as Rosalba Ramos, coming from a wealthy family that deals in car dealerships. Upon meeting Nick and Eve, Rosa sets the stage for the deal, where the Striplings agree to meet in Miami for the cash. Meanwhile, while Rosa is negotiating with the Striplings, Yancy meets Gracie at the café, where he recognizes Nick’s watch—something Gracie has been contemplating selling for a fresh start. Yancy offers to buy her a coffee if she can open up about her “bad friends” so he can bring justice to her and the locals. However, after learning that the watch is worth a whopping $250,000, Gracie quickly slips away the moment Yancy gets up to fetch her coffee, wanting to kickstart their conversation.
After having a successful day with their scheme, Rosa and Yancy head to Dawnie’s place, where Neville is also staying, to celebrate the night. We see the realtor neighbor bribing Sonny in order to help him get insurance money after losing his house in the arson fire but in vain. The ending of Bad Monkey Episode 8 finds Nick and Eve heading to the same restaurant where Yancy and Rosa went earlier in the day. As Nick approaches the counter to order conch shells for his hungry wife, we see Eve standing next to a wall where a picture of Rosa, Yancy, and Claspers is hanging.
We are sure Eve will connect the dots once she sees the photo, as she is always one step ahead and clever enough to cover her tracks and stay on safe ground. Will Rosa and Yancy be successful in catching Nick and Eve this time? Will Caitlin have to take the bait for real to cross Eve and help Yancy with his plans? Also, with Gracie leaving the island with her belongings, will she find peace in her life with money that wasn’t earned honestly?
A lot of questions remain, and there are still a few characters left to conclude their arcs. With only two episodes left, we’ll find the answers in the upcoming episodes.
