The Flight Attendant Season 2, Episode 6: Recap & Ending Explained: “You can go have some time and just be Cassie.” If Cassie tries to be Cassie, she messes up. The problems with being oneself come out in grand fashion in ‘The Flight Attendant’. Anywhere she goes, Cassie brings with her trouble for those around her like a ship with an anchor. The emotional baggage that she is carrying since her childhood has deterred her from moving on. It comes out in a striking conversation with her mother that gives us insights into the dysfunctional household of the Bowdens. This episode moved at a frenetic pace. The different moving parts in the story finally seem like converging, and the next two episodes will be exciting to unravel the continuing mystery.
THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT (SEASON 2), EPISODE 6 RECAP:
EPISODE 6 – BROTHERS AND SISTERS
The episode picks up from Cassie’s tragic revelation in the previous episode. Max and Annie come home to find her lying on the floor. Annie and Cassie then have a heart-to-heart conversation about their struggles and insecurities. The former reveals how much self-doubt has crept into her decision-making after the events of season one. The latter confides in Annie about her slippages in the supposed sober year. As they are reveling in their imperfections, Benjamin shows up and Cassie leaves via the back door. She meets up with Davey to take a trip back to NY to get closure on her childhood. She confesses her slippages to Davey and he is supportive. In probably one of the best scenes of the season, Cassie dedicates a letter to her father at his graveyard that partially explains her drinking problem and why she has turned out like this.
Megan learns from Eli that her husband had to sell the house to satisfy legal bills. Annie wants to discuss her relationship with Max and all that has happened in the last few days. Max is focused on rummaging through the laptop he got from the Diazes. Meanwhile, the impersonator walks into Cassie’s apartment and places the bloodied knife from episode four on the top of a shelf. She is able to surreptitiously leave – just about. The bridge between Dot and Benjamin is widening by the day. The two are clearly against each other and Cassie is stuck in between. Shane gets a call from Cassi’e’s handler about details from her life. It seems as if Benjamin and the CIA are lining up against Cassie. This is even confirmed in the end when Shane reveals to Cassie that there is a “person of interest” notification on the CIA’s internal servers describing her physical appearance.
Max finds information on the Diazes’ laptop that tries to link Cassie to some North Korean group. In NY, although the original plan was for Cassie and Davey to clear out the house without their mother being present there, it is ruined when she is. She has a huge confrontation with Cassie about their past, and the two are not able to resolve their differences. It seems like the beef will continue. Just then, some North Korean agents arrive at the house asking about Megan. Cassie and Davey manage to escape and take a flight back home to LA. Megan’s reunion with Bill does not go as planned. He tells her that they cannot be a family again and phones the FBI to avoid prosecution. Dot confirms our suspicions about the CIA trying to frame Cassie but we see Benjamin watching her from his car with a gun in his hands.
THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT (SEASON 2), EPISODE 6 ENDING EXPLAINED:
Cassie is able to decode another View MAster slide. The slide is actually a boat’s registration number. She sends it to Shane who warns her to come to meet him before going to the Agency office to meet Dot. The number actually belongs to a boat owned or controlled by the CIA. We see Officer Jones walking on it. The blonde impersonator emerges from behind and shoots him dead. She then proceeds to take the gun and intends to kill everyone on the boat. This ending confirms the previous fears that the blonde impersonator has it out for the CIA and wants to pin the blame on Cassie. Because the View-Master belongs to her, the photos on it have also been taken by her. She was surveilling the analysts, Cassie, and the agents as well to chart her big conspiracy.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The running theme for this episode was closure. And heartbreak. When the two come together, the outcome is not often that pleasant. Megan and Cassie both learn this the hard way. An interesting tangent that the episode picks up from was explaining Cassie’s childhood. Her troubled adulthood is a function of her treacherous time growing up with her father, who was just like her. And not in a good way.
Now that the worms are coming out of the can, emotions run high. People’s expectations from their own family are at times defeated not by some unexpected behavior but because of their own mistakes. It is true for both our leading ladies. ‘The Flight Attendant’ has, at the same time, maintained well the mystery of the impersonator but not given a proper explanation to get the imagination running. The audience is on square one – moistly clueless – as to make connections. The clues given out have come too slow and too disconnectedly to be useful. It seems like Cassie is heading for jail time. It will be extremely difficult for her to avoid it given how the situation is getting extreme and the impersonator coming closer to making her plan a success.
