Tom Holland is cautiously enthusiastic about the progress being made on the Spider-Man 4 movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland stated that there is “some stuff going on” with the untitled Spider-Man 4 and that he is “excited about” it during a recent interview with Inverse.

“Whether or not it’ll come to fruition, who knows?” But right now, it’s looking pretty good, and we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Holland recently made the announcement that although there had been conversations about Spider-Man 4, they had been postponed in support of the WGA writers who are now on strike. At the time, he stated, “There have been numerous conversations, but it’s still very, very early stages.

Is there any development of the MCU’s Spider-Man 4?

The third and most recent Spider-Man film in the MCU, Spider-Man: No Way Home, debuted in theatres in December 2021. Producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal announced in the same month that Sony and Marvel Studios had started “actively” developing Spider-Man’s future in the MCU. Then, in May 2022, Sony CEO Tom Rothman declared that the studio was “[hoping] to get working” on Spider-Man 4, presumably with director Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland and Zendaya coming back.

Unconfirmed rumors that Spider-Man 4 might be released in July 2024 first appeared in October. Holland reportedly signed a new contract to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the MCU one month later, according to a report. The fourth Spider-Man movie was reportedly moving into “advanced” pre-production shortly after that. The writing for Spider-Man 4 began in February of last year, according to the aforementioned Feige, who declined to elaborate.

“All I will say is that we have the story,” Feige said. “We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.” (Please Note: this was before the WGA strike, which began in May.)

Can Miles Morales Join the MCU?

Holland, who has been portraying Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, said he would love to assist in making Miles Morales’ franchise debut in another section of the Inverse interview.

“I would be honored to bring Miles Morales into the live-action world,” Holland said. “How we do that, I don’t know, but given the opportunity, I would jump at it.”

Even though Miles Morales’ Spider-Man has yet to appear in a live-action film, the animated version of the superhero has already become a huge hit. Notably, Pascal recently revealed that a live-action Miles Morales film is in development. However, it’s not yet known if it would be a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Since Holland’s solo debut as Peter Parker in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the MCU has been hinting at Miles’ appearance. Aaron Davis/Prowler, played by Donald Glover, is Miles’ uncle in the movie. Aaron even makes a blatant allusion to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker by saying he has “a nephew who lives around here.” Miles’ entry into the MCU is also hinted at in the aforementioned No Way Home, as Jamie Foxx’s Max Dillon/Electro jokes, “There’s gotta be a Black Spider-Man somewhere out there.”
