The Atypical Family Episode 3 Recap:

The episode continues from where it left off. Gwi-Ju is holding Da-Hae’s hand after coming from the future. Puzzled by the return of his powers, Gwi-Ju wonders if he can utilize them to save Se-Yeon. However, Gwi-Ju soon discovers that his ability only extends to moments when Da-Hae is present, baffling him. Unable to understand the strangeness of his returned powers, Gwi-Ju visits Da-Hae at her workplace, assuming Da-Hae must also have some power since she is the only one in color and can touch her in the past. Da-Hae cannot understand Gwi-Ju, but she assumes Gwi-Ju is asking her out. Man Heum stops Gwi-Ju’s ramble and tells him he is in love. Meanwhile, Man Heum arranges for Da-Hae to move in with them. Man Heum asks Gwi-Ju to meet Da-Hae for a date near a shopping mall. Gwi-Ju arrives at the location but watches Da-Hae from afar before leaving.

A series of flashbacks

In a flashback, we see Gwi-Ju, a new firefighter who receives the news of I-Na’s birth. Gwi-Ju’s boss asks him to take the day off and spend time with his family while he covers Gwi-Ju’s shifts. The day I-Na is born, there is a fire in a school nearby, and during the rescue operation, Gwi-Ju’s boss dies. During Gwi-Ju’s boss’s funeral, Gwi-Ju starts panicking but returns to the day I-Na was born. However, he noticed a slight change: the door to the hospital room was in color, and he could touch it. Gwi-Ju opens the door, starts running towards the accident location, and watches his boss get smashed by the falling building. Over the years, Gwi-Ju keeps returning to the exact moment over and over again, hoping to save his boss, but it starts affecting his work and family life.

Gwi-Ju, Se-Yeon, and I-Na go to the zoo one day. Se-Yeon warns Gwi-Ju not to disappear that day, and if he does, he should not bother returning because she plans to take I-Na and leave Gwi-Ju for good. However, Gwi-Ju could not help himself and was back in the hospital room. This time, he does not try to save his boss; instead, he returns to the car. Unfortunately, he realizes his family has met with an accident, and Se-Yeon is dead.

I-Na’s superpower

Meanwhile, Da-Hae’s family wants to project Bok’s family members as mentally unstable and make sure Da-Hae will manage all their assets. Da-Hae’s mother asks Da-Hae to make a move quickly. Da-Hae moves in with the Bok family, and she arrives with a bouquet. Da-Hae tells the family that Gwi-Ju gave her the flowers when they met, but Gwi-Ju denies those actions. Gwi-Ju drags her aside and asks her why she is lying, but Da-Hae tells him that he not only bought her flowers but also hugged her tightly. Gwi-Ju needs clarification as he is unsure if he has traveled back in time and done those things or if Da-Hae is messing with his head again.

I-Na is ready to leave for school, and Man Heum tells Da-Hae that I-Na is slow, but I-Na retaliates by saying her superpower is invisible, as nobody talks to her in school. However, when she comes to the school, she is spying on a boy (her classmate) when another student catches her. The girl wants to be I-Na’s friend, but I-Na pushes her away. At home, Da-Hae gets close to I-Na as she does her eyebrows and shows her how pretty she is.

Unfortunately for Da-Hae, I-Na looks into Da-Hae’s eyes, and she can read her mind. Da-Hae thinks that I-Na is the key to the Bok family’s wealth. I-Na blurts out the same thing, asking if she is referring to the key to the building. At school, the same girl approaches I-Na, asks her to join their dance club, and takes away I-Na’s glasses. I-Na panics, but the boy she is spying on gives her the glasses, and they lock her eyes so I-Na can read his thoughts. The boy thinks I-Na is pretty.

Dong-Hee gets cheated on

Dong-Hee’s house is being sold, and she confronts Man Heum about it. It turns out that the Bok family is short of money. After eavesdropping, Da-Hae worries about her situation and informs her family about the same. In a flashback to Dong-Hee’s life, we see her as a young model who took over the runway. Ji Han notices her and gives her a present. Dong-Hee is thrilled and starts flying, but she suddenly gains weight and falls to the ground. Fortunately, this was only Dong-Hee’s nightmarish dream. Dong-Hee asks Ji Han to meet her for dinner, but he cancels, saying he has surgery to attend to.

Dong-Hee visits the place with potential customers for Ji Han’s clinic. However, Dong-Hee hears laughter and looks in that direction to find Grace and Ji Han. Dong-Hee follows them only to find Ji Han cheating on her with Grace. Dong-Hee leaves without saying a word to either of them. Ji Han comes home and sees everything packed. Dong-Hee informs him that she is moving in with her parents and he should take his luggage and leave. Ji Han suggests they need to take a break as he is the reason for Dong-Hee’s burden. Dong-Hee does not confront Ji Han and agrees to take a break.

Gwi-Ju wonders if he did give Da-Hae flowers. He steps out of the house and finds the same flowers, takes them, and disappears into the past. Gwi-Ju starts following Da-Hae, who is determined not to give her the flowers. However, Da-Hae turns around, and Gwi-Ju notices a vehicle approaching, so he pulls her towards him, unintentionally hugs her, and gives her the flowers.

Man Heum is having a hard time as her crypto and stock prices are not increasing. Da-Hae prepares tea for Man Heum but Dong-Hee moves in and asks for tea. Dong-Hee tries to drink from Man Heum’s cup, but Da-Hae stops her. Sensing something is wrong, Dong-Hee warns Da-Hae that if she puts sleeping pills inside Man Heum’s tea and is found out, she will be in trouble. Da-Hae drinks the tea with sleeping pills to prove nothing is wrong. Dong-Hee watches her like a hawk.

Later, Dong-Hee visits the cellar and wants to take something expensive. Da-Hae records the scene, but she dozes off. She is returned to her senses when she watches Dong-Hee take off the ground and hover a little. Subsequently, Da-Hae is scared and starts running up the stairs and trips, but Gwi-Ju catches her. As tensions escalate, Da-Hae’s encounter with Gwi-Ju takes a frightening turn when she realizes his presence cannot be seen in the mirror, making her panic.  Da-Hae thinks the house is haunted, but she touches Gwi-Ju and starts screaming.
