Borat was back in 2020. The reason was the US government’s subsequent stupidness to control generalized issues. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was the kind of unnecessary sequel that wasn’t actually needed. But, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm exists and a script about this mockumentary does too.

More than decades after the first film, the now Oscar-nominated screenplay for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is available for download. Again following Borat on his journey from Kazakistan to America, the new film focuses on a lot of issues that plague contemporary society.

The screenplay, credited to a record 9 people including Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Peter Baynham, Erica Rivinoja, Dan Mazer, Jena Friedman, and Lee Kern, the film follows the same tone that the intial film had. It is still a pretty gross-out comedy, but there’s more heart to this one than the other.

While the critic and the commentary doesn’t always land, this occasionally funny film makes a statement that it is aiming for. Sacha returns to a role that he was born to play. However, the highlight of the new film is breakout co-star Maria Balakova. Also nominated for an Oscar in a supporting role, Balkova’s performance has landed the Amazon Studio-backed film some serious buzz.

While the film feels too rushed towards the (especially to me because I seem to be in the minority here), there’s no denying the fact that Borat still remains a pretty unforgettable character.
