How to Watch ‘Skinamarink’?:  Written and directed by Kyle Edward Ball, his first feature-length debut, Skinamarink brings an experimental horror film for niche indie fans. The Canadian film follows two children who, after waking up in the middle of the night, find their father missing from the house. To add to their horror, they also see the windows, doors, and many other objects from their home slowly disappearing.

Skinamarink was deemed one of the most surprising horror hits of the year 2022, and the audiences found the film deeply unsettling and weird. Before the production of this feature, Kyle Ball ran a Youtube channel and uploaded videos on the nightmares recounted by his commenters.  In 2020, Ball also directed a short film, Heck, from where the idea of a full-feature film, which was later titled Skinamarink, came to light.

Made on a budget of $15000, the director shot the film digitally in his childhood home in Edmonton, Canada. The film first premiered at the 26th Fantasia Film Festival, one of North America’s renowned and most significant film festivals that values hardcore genre films.

Thereon, the film traveled to many other film festivals; however, due to technical difficulties, the film got leaked online. Consequently, it only garnered Ball’s Skinamarink a lot of attention on social media apps and websites, including TikTok, Reddit, and Twitter.

The film has attracted tremendous word-of-mouth acclaim and currently has an approved rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 56 reviews by critics.  Critics have  described this unsettling film as ‘difficult to shake.’ Viewers also found the film terrifying, while others thought that their patience was tested while watching the movie.
