21 is a 2008 money heist movie directed by Robert Luketic starring Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Bosworth, Liza Lapira, Jacob Pitts, Aaron Yoo, and Kieu Chinh. The movie was based on the bestselling book by Ben Mezrich called Bringing Down The House released in 2003 which tells the story of an MIT Blackjack Team. The movie was a box office success and was nominated for the People’s Choice Awards USA in 2009.

The story follows Ben, a mathematics major who joins the MIT Blackjack Team formed by professor Micky Rosa to afford his $300,000 tuition. He meets Choi, Fisher, Jill, and Kianna and forms a formidable plan to win at casinos. Yet his growing addiction to gambling and luxurious life causes him to neglect his role in an engineering competition and friends, who fall in love with him. He runs into a $200,000 debt and in short messes up his relationship with his professor and people around him. The film ends with Ben recounting the tale to the dumbfounded scholarship director.

Ocean’s Eleven

Ocean’s Eleven is a 2001 heist movie written by Ted Griffin and directed by Steven Soderbergh. Ocean’s Eleven is the first installment of the franchise and a remake of the 1960 movie by Rat Pack. The movie dazzles with the star cast of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, and Bernie Mac. The movie enjoyed massive commercial success with the formation of a huge fan base and won the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Actress (Julia Roberts).

The story follows an ex-convict Danny Ocean who plans a money heist of $160 million with friend Rusty Ryan to overthrow former ally and now a casino owner Terry Benedict, also a lover of Danny’s ex-wife, Tess. Danny and Rusty put together a team of 8, a team of former colleagues and criminal masterminds to carry out his plan which involved robbing the Bellagio, the Mirage, and MGM Grand casinos. The movie ends with the team triumphantly robbing Terry and escaping scot-free and Danny reuniting with Tess and Rusty.

Uncut Gems

Uncut Gems is a 2019 crime thriller directed by Josh and Bennie Safdie who co-wrote the script along with Ronald Bronstein starring Adam Sandler, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel, and Eric Bogosian. Adam Sandler received worldwide critical acclaim for this movie also winning the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.

The story revolves around Howard Ratner, a Jewish-American jewelry and gambling addict who needs to pay off the $100,000 debt he owes to his brother-in-law, Arno by retrieving a lost jewel, an opal he had bought. The bidding on the opal leads him to misfortunes where he is beaten up and stripped by Arno and his goons. At last, when Ratner’s Boston Celtics win the bid of $1.2 million, he gets killed by Arno who also gets shot while his lover Julia flees with the money.
