Still Up (Season 1 Finale) Episode 8 Recap
Episode 8: The Wedding
Lisa & Veggie’s Relationship
The season one finale of Still Up begins right where the penultimate episode ended. Veggie (Bake Harrison), who had come to check whether Lisa (Antonia Thomas) is at Danny’s (Craig Roberts) apartment, bumps into her on his way out of the building. She was on her way to meet the Cat Man (Rich Fulcher) to hand over the cat she found in her storage unit. Lisa believes he is the perfect person to take care of it. Besides, she had heard the cat man speak about his other cat’s death. So, she thought this could fill the hole it left in his heart.
Veggie gets upset that Lisa left home and lied to him about it. Lisa talks about the storage unit and how she does not want to get rid of her old things as he wants her to. He brings her attention to a more important topic – the issues in their relationship after they went on the camping trip with his parents. They both ask each other what they were doing at Danny’s apartment. Veggie reveals how bad he feels that she only feels alive after he goes to sleep. Since Danny mentioned it before, Veggie mentions Lisa’s fear – she was worried that he was going to propose. He questions whether that was the reason she was being distant.
Danny & Lisa’s First Meeting
After Veggie leaves his apartment, Danny tries to do some damage control. He calls Amy (Lois Chimimba) and sends a voice note about that weird thing i.e., Lisa’s call on Adam’s phone. Danny thinks he messed up their relationship again and does not wish it to end. Later, Lisa calls Danny to ask why he told Veggie about her fear – and how he knew about it in the first place. Danny says she told him on the hen’s night. Anyhow, Veggie leaves the apartment with an overnight bag, which worries Lisa.
Whether Veggie dumped her or momentarily left her alone, Danny says it is nowhere near the utter humiliation he faced – which keeps him awake late every single night. About 3 years ago, Lisa and Danny met each other for the first time. They both were attending the same wedding ceremony. Lisa sat on the next seat to Danny’s. He introduced himself as the writer for NME and mentioned how much he loves the perks of this job. Chloe, who was his girlfriend at the time, interrupted their dialogue. Danny spoke fondly of Chloe’s singing skills while she did not seem to care for him nearly as much as he did. Lisa sensed that and felt bad for him. Chloe’s manager, Milo, took her away from their table.
Reminiscing about The Worst Possible Break-up

Danny remembers this wedding night as probably the most embarrassing night in his life. While reminiscing about it, they also remember some good things. Danny helped Lisa with her dating profile and clicked a new photo for her. They both got smitten by each other but did not express it. Since they had a good time dancing that night, Lisa thinks they should recreate that magic. So, she plays music on her phone and they both start dancing in their homes.
After the adorable dance, Lisa recalls the sad part of the night. Until then, Danny had been in a relationship with Chloe for about three years. He thought he should take the next step and propose to Chloe that night. While listening to Chloe sing, Danny showed the ring to Lisa to ask for her opinion. She praised his choice and made him feel good about it. Afterwards, she walked into the washroom to hear Chloe speaking with her manager and then, kissing him. Lisa realised that Chloe was cheating on Danny. So, she purposefully took Danny’s ring away to save him from the humiliation. But Danny had no idea that Lisa had done that.
Danny’s Break-up with Lisa
When Lisa returns from the washroom, she manages to take the ring out of Danny’s jacket pocket. Since he could not find it, she thinks he would abort his plan. But he climbs up on the stage and bends down on his knees to propose to Chloe. Unfortunately, he cannot find the ring at the last minute. Embarrassed by this mess-up, he suddenly starts singing on the stage. But no one joins him and he ends up making a fool out of himself. Afterwards, Chloe brings him outside and breaks up with him – because she believes she has outgrown him.
In the present, Danny reveals that he found the ring in his pocket later. He wonders whether it was a message from the universe to let him know that Chloe was not right for him. Upon hearing that, Lisa admits that he could not find the ring because she took it. She says that she did it for a reason – she believed he deserved better than Chloe, who was cheating on him. Besides that, Lisa confesses that she liked Danny. He asks what she means by that. But she suddenly cuts the call. Right after that, Veggie returns home.
Still Up (Season 1 Finale) Episode 8 Ending Explained:
Do Lisa and Danny end up together in the end?
Upon hearing that Lisa ‘liked him’, Danny rushes to her place. Meanwhile, Veggie returns home after running in circles to clear up his mind. Lisa apologises for being distant in the recent past. Then, Veggie brings up the example of a mirror that Danny mentioned to him. But after fumbling for a bit, he agrees that he struggles to express his feelings. Finally, he decides to be honest with her. He says he will be Lisa’s Veggie as long she wants him to be i.e., he will be with her until she wants him to.
By that time, Danny gets on a bus to reach Lisa’s house. He eventually steps out and starts running toward her place. Finally, when he reaches there, she sees him from behind the window. She tries to tell him something, but he cannot hear even a word she says. So, she texts him and mentions that ‘Veggie’s back’. Eventually, Dany walks toward the window to speak with her. Then, over a call, they try to make sense of what they are feeling. Danny assures her that he will be there for Lisa, no matter what happens. Instead of being angry or upset, he says that he will be her mirror any time she feels the need.
