The Night Agent (Season 1): The latest entry into Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows, “The Night Agent,” is your perfect weekend binge if you love espionage thrillers. Since its release on March 23, 2023, it has garnered more than 500 million watch hours in just three weeks. Amid this great response, the show has been renewed for a 2nd season.
Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, the show follows a young FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who’s in such a low-level job that all he does is pick up phone calls for an emergency line, or at least that’s what he believed.
As reports say, it has been loved by audiences around the world. So here’s a Recap of what happened in Season 1, along with an explanation for the ending.

Episode 1: The Call

Episode 2: Redial
Amid danger and terror, Peter continues to stand by Rose’s side, shielding her from the deadly threats that surround them. As they navigate their way through this treacherous path, a call from Farr brings news that shakes them to their core – the FBI Deputy Director Hawkins has met his demise. But their determination never falters, for they stumble upon a startling discovery in Rose’s aunt and uncle’s cabin – a clandestine hard drive.
And within its contents lies a crucial file with the significant label ‘2781’ – the very number of the subway train in the heart-wrenching metro bombing. Episode 3: The Zookeeper
Meet Erik Monk, a Secret Service agent who has proven his worth by saving the previous President. Now, he’s been given a new assignment – to join the security detail for the Vice President’s daughter, Maddie. But as they embark on a journey, suspicion creeps in – Peter thinks Farr is a traitor. Yet, Farr quickly steps in and clears up any doubts, revealing that she has no connection to the killers tracking them down to the cabin.
But that’s not all – Maddie has another perilous connection in her life. A seemingly innocent flirtation with her art professor takes a sinister turn when it is revealed that the professor is, in fact, connected to the mastermind behind the metro bombing that has ravaged the city. With danger lurking at every corner, Erik Monk is Maddie’s only hope for survival.
Episode 4: Eyes Only
Prepare to be on the edge of your seat! In this exciting episode, Peter and Rose reconnect with Lorna, an old friend of Rose’s family who leads them to the shocking truth behind the metro bombing. Lorna takes our heroes to the true target location, just two city blocks away from a seemingly innocent coffee shop.
But the danger doesn’t end there – Lorna is tragically killed by the assassins in her own home. The plot thickens as we discover that the mastermind behind these heinous acts is none other than the Vice President himself, Maddie’s father, Redfield.
Episode 5: The Marionette
Maddie is a determined and independent young woman who isn’t afraid to take risks. She manages to shake off her strict Secret Service detail in order to meet up with her mysterious and alluring art professor, Paulo. As the night progresses, the passion between Maddie and Paulo intensifies, and they are about to give in to their desire.
Suddenly, the unexpected happens – a man with a snake tattoo bursts into the room and points a gun at them. Before Maddie can even process what’s happening, Paulo is shot, and the assailant kidnaps her, leaving her reeling and desperate to escape.
Episode 6: Fathoms
Are you ready for a thrilling episode? Well, hold on tight because this one’s a real nail-biter. This is the episode where our protagonist, Peter, finally discovers the mole! Things are taking a turn for the worse when he’s forced to leave his dear friend Rose with Cisco. As Peter finishes up his briefing, Diane Farr mistakenly drops a clue that puts Rose in the cross-hairs of danger.

Remember that item stolen from the home in the pilot episode? Well, it turns out it was a nanny cam containing footage of Maddie’s father hitting Maddie. The pieces of the puzzle are slowly falling into place, and the truth is seemingly within their grasp.
Episode 8: Redux
Colin Worley, the man responsible for the devastating metro bombing, met his end at the hands of Wick after a botched operation. Or did he? Little did Wick know there was a twin brother, Matteo, who he actually killed. Taking on his brother’s identity, Colin kidnaps the Vice President’s daughter to avenge his brother’s death. The ruthless Ellen causes chaos before meeting her demise at the hands of Rose. The team of Rose, Peter, Chelsea, and Monks rescues Maddie, but Monks gets shot and dies.
Episode 9: The Devil We Know
Maddie, Chelsea, Peter, and Rose find themselves immersed in a thrilling and dangerous situation. They are aware that the Vice President has orchestrated an assassination attempt on Zadar, but strangely, the bomb fails to go off. As tension rises amongst the group, Farr becomes convinced that Redfield and Wick have turned on her and are determined to take her out.
In a race against time, Farr decides to flee the country, but just as she is about to leave, Peter and Rose arrive with shocking news. The President is now the new target! Will the group be able to thwart the assassination attempt and save the President’s life?
Episode 10: Fathers
Peter and Rose are on an adrenaline-fueled adventure as they race against time to foil an assassination attempt on the President’s life. Along with the clever and resourceful Farr, they brave the highly-fortified Camp David, and they succeed in saving the President. But all is not lost as he uncovers a shocking truth about his father’s guilt and soon finds himself offered a job as The Night Agent. What lies next as he accepts this dangerous new position to protect his country?
The Night Agent (Season 1) Ending, Explained
When Peter discovered that his father wasn’t innocent but guilty, he was desperate to unveil the truth. With the support of Rose, he bravely refused any medals and commendations and demanded to see all the evidence against his father. He was handed a tape that contained his own father’s confession. Shocked and heartbroken, Peter was determined to find out exactly what happened.
However, his quest for justice took a complicated twist when the President revealed that his father had strategically admitted his guilt on the video to become a double agent and catch some foreign agents red-handed. Tragically, his father was killed before he could see it through. This revelation left Peter with a mix of emotions, including anger, disbelief, and sorrow. Nonetheless, he kept his father’s memory alive by uncovering the truth about his involvement and paving the way for redemption.
