Ti West’s return to filmmaking earlier this year not just felt like a sort of impactful look at B-movies, but also a really interesting way to deal with slasher movies in general. After premiering at the 2022 SXSW, ‘X‘ went on to get extreme critical acclaim from every facet of the film community. However, the most surprising thing about the return was that West wasn’t done yet. The announcement of ‘Pearl’ and thereafter ‘MaXXXine’ all set in the same universe is just luring horror movie fans into a mine of slasher gold.

With Pearl, Mia Goth reprises her role as Maxine, but since the new movie is set in the 1910s, this is, in fact, a sort of origin story for our heroine/villain. Seeming a little different in tone, before pouring down buckets of blood on you, the story begins with Pearl, a young girl who is the constant support to her paralyzed father.

She is extremely obedient and follows every single instruction that her mother tells her to follow. However, deep down, Maxine has already taken hold of her. She craves stardom, and the control that the family exhibits on her is making her bitter with each passing day. We all know what being suppressed does to a person, and our girl is no different.

Currently standing at a handsome critical score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, the consensus tells us that, “Pearl finds Ti West squeezing fresh gore out of the world he created with X — and once again benefiting from a brilliant Mia Goth performance.”

Where to Watch and stream ‘Pearl’ Online?

Currently, the only way to watch ‘Pearl’ is in a movie theatre. A24 released the movie across U.S theatres on September 16th, 2022. To find out what theatres are playing the movie near you, click here.

As far as streaming is concerned, there’s no news yet. Since none of the streaming services have yet to buy the rights to ‘X,’ (the first movie in the franchise only available on major VOD services), it’s highly unlikely ‘Pearl’ will find a place on them anytime soon, either. However, since ‘X’ came out on VOD sooner than it was expected, one can assume that you can Buy or Rent Pearl soon too.
