“Humint” (2026) explores the fraught relationships between South Korea, North Korea, China, and Russia through an intertwined investigation. The film follows two officers—Zo, from South Korea, and Geon, from North Korea—whose missions gradually converge. Zo begins by tracking intelligence tied to a drug trade, only to uncover a far-reaching human trafficking network run by the Russian mafia. His pursuit leads him to Vladivostok.

At the same time, Geon is assigned to investigate the disappearance of North Korean nationals. His search also takes him to Vladivostok, where he discovers a broker at the center of the trafficking operation. As their paths begin to intersect, a shared connection emerges through Seon-hwa, a hostess with ties to both men and a past with Geon. This convergence pulls Zo and Geon into the same orbit, drawing them deeper into the operations of the Russian mafia.

Humint (2026) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

The film opens with Agent Zo (South Korean Intelligence Agent) in Mahador, gearing up to meet his humint (human intelligence/informant) at a club where illegal activities are taking place. Inside a private room, Agent Zo meets Soo-rin, who has agreed to reveal information about North Korean defectors and everything that happens after in exchange for her freedom. Cameras and communication pieces are in place. A long time back, Soo-rin was sent to Russia (Vladivostok) to make some money.

Soo-rin left her husband and child in North Korea. While working in a restaurant, the state security raided the place and sent Soo-rin away. Instead of sending Soo-rin to Rajin port, the Russians trafficked Soo-rin. The Russians had sex with Soo-rin while recording the act. Additionally, Russians drugged Soo-rin with bingdu (crystal meth). The higher-ups want as much information from Soo-rin even though she is in a horrible mental state.

When Soo-rin realizes the higher-ups and Agent Zo are arguing, Soo-rin screams, making Soo-rin’s captors break open the door. The order for Agent Zo is not to engage and leave. Since Agent Zo has promised to protect Soo-rin, he fights the thugs. Unfortunately, the leader injects  Soo-rin. Immediately, Soo-rin is taken to a South Korean safe house, where she is declared dead. Agent Zo’s senior asks Zo to get used to death. After the incident, the team meets with the Director of the Intelligence Bureau to update him on the information they have gathered.

Even though Zo’s senior does not want to talk about the human trafficking angle, Zo lets the Director know. The Director is curious to know, so Zo reveals that the North Koreans are trafficked through Russia and China and sent to Europe, Southeast Asia, and other places. The origin seems to be in Vladivostok. Furthermore, the North Korea intelligence team in Russia is suspected of having a role in this trafficking business.

Who is Geon?

The trafficking is orchestrated by the Russian mafia led by Alexei Sokolov. Subsequently, Zo is sent to Vladivostok to investigate. In Russia, Zo visits a North Korean restaurant and meets a Russian ally. There, Zo meets the hostess Chae Seon-hwa and soon recruits her as an informant. Five months later, on the North Korea-Russia-China border, a broker brings four young girls to the Russians.

When one of the girls tries to escape, the Russians shoot her dead. Along with the girls, the broker gives the mafia bingdu. When the mafia checks the quality, its 99% pure. So, Alexei asks his men to test the drug on the girls in the car first. Meanwhile, Park Geon (North Korean Intelligence Agent) is sent to Russia to find information about missing people in North Korea.

Soon, Geon finds the broker and brings him to a room where he is questioned. Just then, the General Consul of North Korea arrives, asking the broker to write a confession. Taking the opportunity, Geon sneakily hides a device under the table to record everything that goes on in that room when he is away.

After that, General Consul and Geon visit the North Korean restaurant. There, the General Consul asks Geon if he was sent to keep an eye on him. To intimidate Geon, the General Consul tells him a tale of a heroic figure in their intelligence bureau many years ago who disappeared. The hostess Seon-hwa serves food to the two men.

However, the General Consul notices a look shared between Geon and Seon-hwa and realizes they must have had some history. When Seon-hwa sings, Geon is moved. Suddenly, Geon gets a call, so they hurry outside. When they arrive at the North Korean holding cell, they see the broker has killed himself with a pen after writing his confession.

Furthermore, General Consul’s men say in the chaos that Geon’s recording device was broken. Meanwhile, Seon-hwa visits a hotel room where Zo is waiting. The deal between them is to give medicines as well as get treatment in South Korea for Seon-hwa’s mother, as she is battling cancer, in exchange for information.

What information does Seon-hwa provide to Zo?

Seon-hwa mentions North Korean intelligence visiting the restaurant, but she does not reveal anything about Geon. After that, Seon-hwa hands over bingdu, which Zo tests and receives a 99% purity result. The restaurant’s employees get the bingdu from their manager, who maintains a strict dosage so the girls don’t consume it.

This is given when the girls go on dates. When it comes to customers, the hostesses mix the drug in the customers’ drinks, then sleep with those men. When the men come back asking for the drug, they sell it for profit. Furthermore, Seon-hwa reveals that some girls got into trouble and were said to have been taken to North Korea. One of them was Soo-rin.

Zo wonders if the man who came to meet Seon-hwa at the restaurant is a member of the consulate. Before letting Seon-hwa leave, Zo gives a pair of gloves as a present to Seon-hwa. Once Seon-hwa leaves, the hotel is staged to make it appear she slept with the Russian man who accompanied Seon-hwa inside.

While this is going on, Geon waits near Seon-hwa’s restaurant. As Seon-hwa and the manager are approaching the restaurant, the manager asks Seon-hwa to keep the gloves to herself and not send them back to North Korea. Just then, Geon arrives and tells Seon-hwa that he has been looking for her all along. He is shocked to learn that Seon-hwa came to Russia to make money.

All this while, a North Korean comrade has been recording the whole meeting. Now, the General Consul asks his men to dig into Seon-hwa’s history. The South Koreans review the surveillance footage and realize that Seon-hwa and Geon were probably ex-lovers. They also discover the North Korean consulate member recording Seon-hwa and Geon’s interaction. The problem arises when Agent Im and Zo get into an argument, as Zo trusts Seon-hwa, but Im is unsure.

Will Seon-hwa be spared?

Meanwhile, Seon-hwa hides dollars inside sanitary pads. That night, the manager asks Seon-hwa to do what she thinks is right, even if it means running away with someone. The manager will handle everything else. Elsewhere, the General Consul watches Geon, as there are hidden cameras everywhere that Geon is unaware of. Geon finishes a whole bottle of vodka while listening to Seon-hwa’s voice recordings from the past.

Later in the night, consulate members visit Geon to take him to meet the General Consul. Now, the General Consul shows footage from a different hotel where the South Korean’s are disguised and enter a room adjacent to Seon-hwa’s. The revelation is that the South Koreans have recruited Seon-hwa. This angers Geon. A raid is conducted on the North Korean restaurant employees’ rooms. Zo gets wind of this and reaches the dorms.

In the dorms, Geon secretly tells Seon-hwa to confess to being an informant, but she does so to give Geon information about the South Koreans. The comrades now find dollars in Seon-hwa’s room. Seon-hwa is arrested. In the confession, Seon-hwa reveals that her father was caught smuggling in China, and instead of helping Seon-hwa’s family, Geon took charge of the investigation.

This caused their engagement to break. Now, the General Consul mentally tortures Seon-hwa to write and rewrite her whole life history repeatedly to find the lie. When Seon-hwa begs for water, Geon is the one to torture Seon-hwa by pouring water all over her face. Outside the location, Zo uses a sensitive listening device to understand what is going on inside the room.

Where is Seon-hwa taken?

As the General Consul is ready to take Seon-hwan to the Rajin port, Geon gives a piece of paper to Seon-hwa, asking her to tell the officials in North Korea that she gave false statements. Once General Consul and Seon-hwa leave, the consulate members reveal to Geon who the new South Koreans are. Now, Geon is angered and rushes to the South Korean base.

Meanwhile, Zo follows the General Consul’s car, which leads him to a meeting point instead of a port. The meeting is between the General Consul and Alexei. The General Consul hands Seon-hwa over to them. From afar, Zo captures all this and sends it to Im. After that, Zo follows the Russian car, which leads to a huge house/auction house where Seon-hwa is taken inside. As Zo tries to sneak into the house, Geon reaches the South Korean base and fights Im.

After hurting Im, using Im’s phone, Geon sends bruised images of Im to Zo. Getting on a call, Geon tells Zo to hurry to the base. For every minute Zo is late, a bone in Im’s body will be broken. Now, Zo reveals Seon-hwa’s location and also tells Geon that the North Koreans trafficked Seon-hwa to the Russians. At first, Geon does not believe, but Zo sends proof.

Geon rushes to the location, followed by a consulate member who also informs General Consul about Geon’s whereabouts. Inside the house, Seon-hwa sees many women in glass cells dressed in white. This is going to be Seon-hwa’s situation as well. However, Seon-hwa tries to fight but fails when Alexei injects Seon-hwa. The General Consul informs Alexei about Geon’s movements. After that, the General Consul gets a fake confession from the restaurant manager, who makes her say that Seon-hwa and Geon are traitors.

Humint (2026) Movie Ending Explained:

Inside the house, Zo fights the Russian mafia alone. Outside, Geon and the consulate member start shooting at each other while chasing each other’s car. In front of the auction house, Geon kills the consulate member and then enters the building. When Zo sees Seon-hwa, he is momentarily distracted and gets shot. Thankfully, Zo’s bulletproof vest saves him.

Just then, Geon enters, and both men point guns at each other, blaming the other’s government for putting Seon-hwa’s life in danger. At that moment, they team up to fight against the Russians and save the girls. Even though the duo is badly hurt, they kill Alexei and his men. Outside, the General Consul is waiting and kills three girls without mercy.

A gun fight ensues. Along with the General Consul, the other consulate members are present. Soon, they strategize and take the consulate members out. Thankfully, Im arrives blocking the group from the General Consul. In this chaos, Im is also shot at. While fighting, the General Consul shoots at Geon, wounding him terribly.

Still, Geon fights, aided by Zo, who takes down the General Consul. While struggling, Geon whispers something in Zo’s ear. However, Geon does not survive and dies as Seon-hwa comforts him. After that, Zo presents a report on the Russian mafia operation. Along with drugging and trafficking, the mafia made pornographic videos to sell on websites, making millions of dollars from it.

The members of the bureau wondered whether Zo’s experience with Soo-rin influenced his decisions regarding Seon-hwa. However, Agent Im confirmed that nothing Zo did affected his role during the operation. Regarding Seon-hwa, she was sent to Japan to start a new life under a new identity. However, Seon-hwa’s mother could not leave the country as she died from a heart attack.

We see Seon-hwa in what appears to be a Western country rather than Japan. From the shadows, we can see Zo watching Seon-hwa as Seon-hwa navigates her new life. Later, Im asks Zo what Geon had said to Zo. He reveals that Geon expressed his will to live. Zo continues his work as an Agent for the South Korean intelligence bureau.

In cases of war, informants and spies play a key role in operations. More often than not, they are at high risk of getting killed. For the agents, it’s important to ensure their cover isn’t blown and that the informant’s life becomes secondary. In this case, Zo deeply cared for his informants and sincerely wanted to keep his promises to them.

The North-South Korean relationship is rooted in tension, yet we see honest agents working to combat corruption and illegal activities despite being enemies on paper. The film also highlights how some people use war to commit illegal acts for profit, even if it means becoming traitors. Seon-hwa wants to forget all the horrid things she has endured and start a new life. It is a heart-warming moment to see Zo watching over Seon-hwa from afar. The reason he does not want to meet Seon-hwa is that it might remind her of the pain of losing Geon if she sees Zo.
