Cornerstone Films and Bleecker Street have just released the full trailer for Mafia Mamma – a mob parody film featuring two powerhouse actresses, Toni Collette, and Monica Bellucci. In the film, Collette takes on the lead role of Kristin Balbano, a struggling and isolated suburbanite whose life takes an unexpected turn when she gets drawn into the complex and dangerous world of organized crime.
With Collette’s impeccable comedic timing and Bellucci’s magnetic screen presence, Mafia Mamma promises to be a raucous and entertaining ride. The trailer hints at a blend of satire and action as Kristin navigates the treacherous underworld of the mafia with the help of some unlikely allies.
Fans of Collette’s previous work in Muriel’s Wedding and Knives Out won’t want to miss her latest comedic turn. Mafia Mamma feels like a clash of cultures and genres that can be best described as “Under the Tuscan Sun” meets “The Godfather.”
Collette, best known for her intense roles in films like “Hereditary,” plays an insecure American who unexpectedly inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy. With the help of the firm’s trusted consigliere (played by the stunning Monica Bellucci), she must now navigate the complex world of organized crime and defies everyone’s expectations – including her own. The funny trailer shows us Colette arriving at a mob meeting with a briefcase full of muffins, and we can’t wait to see this satirical dig of a clash between the American mom and the Italian Mafia.
The film has an extremely talented supporting cast that includes Giulio Corso, Francesco Mastroianni, Alfonso Perugini, Sophia Nomvete, Eduardo Scarpetta, Tim Daish, and Tommy Rodger. It is directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who is behind films like “Twilight” and “Thirteen,” and features a script by Michael J. Feldman and Debbie Jhoon. In addition to her starring role, Collette serves as a producer on the film alongside Christopher Simon and Amanda Sthers.
Mafia Mama opens in movie theatres on April 14th, 2023.
