Renowned action icon, Jackie Chan, made silent to screen in the thriller drama, “Hidden Strike.” Casually dropped on Netflix during the last week of July, the film has gone up the charts in no time, becoming one of the most-watched movies on the internet. The film showcases the seasoned actor stepping into the shoes of Luo Feng, a former Special Forces maestro. Sharing the screen with him is none other than ex-WWE champion turned actor John Cena, as the two join forces on a mission of utmost importance. Chan’s reemergence in the realm of action-thrillers is a sheer delight for fans who have eagerly awaited his presence. Despite his age, the actor continues to astound with his remarkable prowess in action sequences. From daring leaps off towering edifices to heart-stopping mid-car jumps and even defying gravity, Jackie Chan once again proves his mettle in a collection of his most remarkable feats. If you enjoyed Hidden Strike on Netflix and are looking for movies that are like it somehow, this list will help you.

1. Lethal Weapon (1987)

Movies like Hidden Strike - Lethal Weapon

More than anything, Hidden Strike is about an unlikely alliance between its lead character. So, when we talk about movies that are like it, the 1987 Richard Donner film first comes to mind.

The film stars Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs and Danny Glover as Roger Murtaugh, two detectives with contrasting personalities who are partnered together in the Los Angeles Police Department. It follows the story of these two detectives as they are reluctantly paired up to solve a case involving the death of a young woman.

The investigation leads them to uncover a larger criminal conspiracy involving drug smuggling and illegal arms dealing. Along the way, Riggs and Murtaugh develop an unlikely friendship despite their differences in personalities and approaches to police work. The chemistry between Chan and Cena in Hidden Strike is one of its key features, so a movie like Lethal Weapon would be a great double bill.

2. Rush Hour (1998)

Movies like Hidden Strike - Rush Hour

When we talk about buddy action comedies, Bred Ratner’s Rush Hour, starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, comes instantly to mind. The classic comedy is the story of a Hong Kong detective named Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) who travels to Los Angeles to help the FBI solve the kidnapping of the Chinese Consul’s daughter.

He is paired up with a brash and wisecracking LAPD detective named James Carter (Chris Tucker) to work on the case. The inspirations in the 2023 Netflix action comedy are pretty evident as Hidden Strike, much like Rush Hour, centers around an unlikely partnership that has to navigate cultural differences, language barriers, and personal quirks in order to bring the culprits to justice.

3. The Expendables (2010)

Movies like Hidden Strike - The Expandables

The first Expandables movie revolves around a team of skilled mercenaries known as “The Expendables,” led by Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone). A mysterious and wealthy client hires the team to overthrow a brutal dictator, General Garza, who is causing chaos and oppression in a fictional South American country called Vilena.

Barney and his team, which includes characters played by Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and other action stars, embark on a dangerous mission to infiltrate Vilena and take down General Garza.

Along the way, they encounter various challenges, engage in intense gunfights, explosive action sequences, and display their combat skills. Similar to The Expendables, Hidden Strike is about rescuing some scientists from an oil refinery seized by rebels who threaten to overthrow the power. Like the Stallone film, Hidden Strike features balls-to-wall action that often feels over-the-top and aware of itself.

4. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Movies like Hidden Strike - Mad Max Fury Road

From yellow fonts in the poster to the oil wars that ravage through a desert, Netflix’s Hidden Strike can be attributed for almost lifting a few things from Geroge Miller’s 2015 action masterpiece Mad Max: Fury Road. Considered one of the greatest action movies of all time, the fourth and best film of the Mad Max franchise is set in a desert wasteland in a future world where civilization has collapsed, resources are scarce, and violent and ruthless warlords dominate society.

The story follows Max Rockatansky, played by Tom Hardy, a former police officer haunted by his past, who finds himself captured by the tyrannical ruler Immortan Joe and his army of War Boys. Immortan Joe controls the region’s only source of clean water and maintains control over his subjects through fear and oppression.

The central plot is set in motion when Imperator Furiosa, portrayed by Charlize Theron, one of Immortan Joe’s trusted lieutenants, betrays him by helping a group of his captive “wives” escape in a heavily armored tanker truck. What follows can be considered one big chase sequence that, like Hidden Strike, never stops after it is fueled up and ready to blast off.

5. Central Intelligence (2016)

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart infuse Central Intelligence with irresistible charm, creating a tongue-in-cheek buddy movie. In their high school days, Calvin (Kevin Hart) enjoyed popularity as an athletic student, while Bob (Dwayne Johnson) endured bullying due to his weight. Fast forward to the present, Calvin leads a boring life as an accountant, whereas Bob has undergone a remarkable transformation into a muscular and skilled CIA operative.

When Bob enlists Calvin’s help, their journey unfolds through uproarious and action-packed escapades. Their involvement in a spy mission, which revolves around stolen classified satellite codes, drives them into a whirlwind of humorous and thrilling situations. Comparable to the dynamic of Chan and Cena’s partnership in Hidden Strike and their pursuit to rescue the day, Hart and Johnson collaborate seamlessly to solve the mystery within the world of espionage.

Although pairing these two actors might seem unconventional, their comedic stunts are so outrageously amusing that they entertain the audience throughout their adventure.

6. The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017)

Patrick Hughes expertly blends fast-paced action with witty banter, pairing Ryan Reynolds’ impeccable comic timing with Samuel Jackson’s slapstick humor in this action comedy.

Bryce (Reynolds), a once highly regarded professional bodyguard, finds himself in an unlikely partnership with the notorious hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel Jackson) – the reason for Bryce’s loss of important clientele.

Now in the International Criminal Court (ICC) custody, Darius becomes the primary target as he prepares to testify against a man responsible for numerous war crimes. The ICC appoints Bryce to protect Kincaid during his journey to the trial location. Despite their history of animosity, Bryce and Kincaid must put aside their differences and collaborate to survive the trip. Much like in “Hidden Strike” on Netflix, The Hitman’s Bodyguard is one of those movies which combines intense action sequences, comedic exchanges, and the gradual development of an unlikely friendship between the two characters seamlessly.

7. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

Hobbs and Shaw

A spin-off from the “Fast & Furious” universe, the film centers on the characters Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), who were introduced as antagonists in the series but later became allies. Hobbs, a skilled law enforcement agent working for the American Diplomatic Security Service, and Shaw, a former British military elite operative turned mercenary, are forced to team up when a new threat emerges in the form of Brixton (Idris Elba).

To prevent a global disaster, Hobbs and Shaw are tasked with protecting and extracting the virus from Hattie’s (Vanessa Kirby) body (Shaw’s sister and an MI6 agent), who has been implanted with a virus that Brixton is after.

The high-octane chase across multiple locations, with intense action sequences, car chases, and hand-to-hand combat, is quite similar to the Netflix’s Hidden Strike action sequences. Like Feng and Horne, Hobbs and Shaw have to race against time in this over-the-top action film, giving its titular characters their standalone adventure filled with humor, explosive set pieces, and the thrill of saving the world from a deadly threat.

8. Spenser Confidential (2020)

Combining crime-solving with comedic moments, this film starring Mark Wahlberg is loosely adapted from the “Spenser” book series. Spenser (Mark) is a former Boston police officer and ex-convict trying to rebuild his life after serving time in prison for assaulting his superior officer, Captain John Boylan. However, he becomes involved in a mystery when his mentor, Henry Cimoli (Alan Arkin), is attacked by unknown assailants.

Teaming up with his roommate Hawk, an aspiring MMA fighter, and his ex-girlfriend Cissy, Spenser embarks on a mission to solve the truth behind the attack on Cimoli and the larger criminal operation at play. The reason why this film finds a place on this list of movies like Hidden Strike is that the elements of action, humor, and detective work are reminiscent of the Chan and Cena outing.

To top that off, the need for a general lack of discernment is essential in Wahlberg’s action-oriented performance, which seamlessly complements the comedic moments in the film.
