The 81st Golden Globe Awards, a night of surprises and reaffirmations, unveiled the Golden Globe 2024 winners under new ownership following the dissolution of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The much-anticipated event saw “Oppenheimer” dominating the evening with five wins, including the coveted Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Director for Christopher Nolan. The film’s lead, Cillian Murphy, also bagged the best actor in a drama, making it a triumphant night for the epic tale of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb. However, the evening wasn’t just about “Oppenheimer”.

Succession,” the riveting series about a media mogul’s dysfunctional family, tied a record for the most wins in the best drama category, while “The Bear” and “Beef” also took home multiple awards. On the other hand, “Barbie,” despite leading the movie nominations, only managed to clinch two awards, including the new cinematic and box office achievement category. The television side of the awards was equally thrilling, with “Succession” and “The Bear” winning Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series, respectively.

The awards also recognized stand-up comedy and cinematic and box office achievement, adding a fresh twist to the event. The 2024 Golden Globes, hosted by Jo Koy and broadcast live on CBS, marked a significant departure from the past. With a new, diverse group of 300 journalists from around the world selecting this year’s nominees and winners, the event signaled a new era for the Golden Globes. As the first ceremony since the acquisition of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s assets by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge, the Golden Globes 2024 set the stage for a more inclusive and representative future.
