The Mosquito Coast (Season 2) Episode 4 Recap

Episode 4: A Rag, a Bone, a Hank of Hair

The fourth episode, titled ‘A Rag, a Bone, a Hank of Hair,’ is directed by Metin Hüseyin. The end of the previous season showed Allie’s troublesome behavior, which is bound to change the character dynamic, especially within the family. Allie (Justin Theroux) had sunk the troller into the water. It is the same one that they had managed to survive and arrive in this rainforest. As a result of his action, Margot’s (Melissa George) and Dina’s (Logan Polish) plan of escape on the boat cannot proceed as they expected. The aftereffect of this incident is what most of this episode speaks about. While dealing with that particular scenario, the series also showcases the characters’ willingness to go beyond the perceptions they had built about themselves over the years.

The Mosquito Coast (Season 2), Episode 4

Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) wanders in the wilderness and stumbles upon a wild animal trapped inside a cage. He also sees a device tied to a nearby tree when he goes near it. He does not understand what it is, and right at the moment when he is about to investigate, he hears the sounds of someone and hides. Two people arrive there to take the trapped animal with them, and he watches it from a distance. Meanwhile, back at their place, Margot is shaken to the core by what happened the day before. Dina and Margot have a brief conversation about the same.

Dina asks her mother whether she thinks Allie knows about their plan. Having known him for several years, Margot is certain that he does. That’s when Allie comes in and interrupts their conversation. Dina walks out, and Allie has a word with Margot about the incident and makes her aware of his knowledge about her plan to escape. He shares how her plan would have failed, which is why he did what he did. She is, of course, not satisfied by his justification and starts openly opposing his controlling nature. She is tired of him trying to force being together while none are happy being in the conditions they are in.

On the other side, Charlie follows the two hunters and finds them trying to get away with the animal. He hits one of them with a rock, and they verbally argue. No matter how they want to persuade him to their side, he does not budge and keeps throwing rocks at them. They start following him, and he manages to escape somehow. Back at home, Dina tries to understand Allie’s state of mind. Margot notes that every way out is filled with an obstacle of conviction. She disagrees with this assessment by Allie, and Margot gets pissed at her.

By then, she starts noticing how similar her daughter is to Allie with their confidence in her knowledge and determination. Their relationship takes a bitter detour since they start fighting between themselves instead of being on the same side. However, despite the argument, Margot decides to work on escaping Allie’s imprisonment with another plan. She tells Dina to divert her new friend – Alfredo, ‘s attention for a while so that she can get on his boat and work on this particular attempt.

Isela (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) also speaks to Allie about the incident. She mentions that he broke her trust, and Allie mentions that he did her a favor by sinking the boat since it was a big responsibility in itself. Meanwhile, after running away from the hunters, Charlie rushes back to their place. He mentions the trap camera to Allie and the hunters that were trying to catch him. When Margot walks in during their conversation, Allie gets out with Charlie and refuses to share this incident with her.

On the other hand, Ridley leaves his boat for Alfredo and goes to meet Isela. He is displeased for not getting the boat as she had promised. More than that, he is angry that she is getting swayed by Allie, who he believes is suspicious she has nurtured with care and caution. However, she supports Allie with the belief that he would be helpful to them in the future. As told by Margot, Dina goes to Alfredo and persuades him to get out of the boat, and he takes her on a unique adventure.

The Mosquito Coast (Season 2) Episode 4 Ending Explained

Do Margot and Dina manage to escape the rainforest?

Since there is no one on the boat, Margot gets in and calls someone from Washington, DC, who both she and Allie had known from much before they were on the run. She asks for his support in getting legal immunity for her and her children, and he will get Allie Fox in return. She mentions she is doing this because she wants an everyday life, unlike now. Even if Allie was the reason for his demise, this person does not go along to help Margot. He also senses that Allie has no involvement in making this contact with him. As a result, even her last sign of hope gets diminished.

Along with Alfredo, Dina goes to a nearby cave and sees a classic movie of Alfredo’s liking with a projector. Meanwhile, Allie goes where Charlie spotted a camera. Charlie fears it could be risky for the family since it might help authorities to trace their location. Allie relieves his son’s stress with some words of comfort. However, he warns him not to let anyone know about it, even Isela or Margot. Meanwhile, William (Ian Hart), looking for the Fox family, gets into a bar asking for a job as a hitman. This bar owner mentions Lucretia Salazar, for whom William has stopped working.

Despite not feeling good about William, the owner then tries testing his skills. William wins with flying colors. As a result, he instantly becomes a part of the crew of this person named Mr. Baptista. Back home, Charlie and Margot meet each other after returning from the problems they can share nothing about. She is emotionally broken because of her inability to overcome the odds in front of her, and they end up sharing a moment of silence.
