[Watch] Saand Ki Aankh Trailer: Late-age liberation looks unconvincing
Long after a short and accurate teaser was released the makers of Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ have released the full trailer. The 3 minutes 7 seconds clip looks interesting but is mostly marred by unconvincing casting choice and over the top treatment. Bhumi and Taapsee, who play Chandro Tomar and sister-in-law Ptakashi Tomar are real-lie women whose inspiring story is definitely female-centric fodder. However, the strange choice of casting young actors to play 60+ old women completely takes one out of the proceedings.
The full-length trailer – which also shows a tad too much narrates the tale of two women who broke conventions and patriarchal bonds to raise about their traditional roles and ages so that their daughters get the freedom that they always wished for. The film takes a comical route to showcase female suppression in all parts of India. While cheekily making fun of India stories that star Akshay Kumar, the punchy dialogues could salvage the film from a total letdown.
Based on a real-life story of ‘shooting-daadis’ who won a total of 352 medals at the age of 65, the film also stars Vineet Kumar who was last seen in the brilliant sports drama Mukkabaaz. Produced by Anurag Kashyap and Nidhi Parmar the film is Tushar Hiranandani’s directorial debut. Saand Ki Aankh is also set with a release date this Diwali. The team of Bhumi and Tapsee will be in theatres on 25 October 2019.
