Netflix’s latest miniseries is a Swedish crime drama premiered on April 15, 2025. Created by renowned author Camilla Läckberg, the series follows criminologist Lejla as she returns to her hometown, confronting haunting memories of her own childhood abduction while investigating a new disappearance. Set against the eerie backdrop of a small Swedish village, the show delves into themes of trauma, secrets, and the cyclical nature of violence. In this article, we discuss everything you need to know about Netflix’s The Glass Dome.

What Happens in The Glass Dome?

Lejla, a criminologist living in the U.S., returns to her hometown of Granås, Sweden, after the death of her adoptive mother. She’s not expecting much—just a quiet funeral and a short visit. But soon after she arrives, her childhood friend Louise is found dead in her bathtub, and Louise’s daughter, Alicia, is missing. As Lejla joins the search, things get personal. Alicia’s disappearance mirrors Lejla’s own past—she was kidnapped as a child and kept in a mysterious “glass dome.” Those memories begin to surface, and Lejla suspects there’s a connection.

Suspicion falls on Alicia’s father, Said, who was in the middle of a divorce from Louise. The police chief, Tomas, detains him and searches his house. But Lejla isn’t convinced. She digs deeper and finds a disturbing pattern: someone close had easy access to Alicia, and the timeline matches a local builder who turns out to be a dead end. Lejla recalls the name “Ecki,” the man who abducted her as a child, someone who gave her dolls, cut girls’ hair, and killed others. Her fragmented memories start making more sense as the case unfolds.

Tomas’s credibility takes a hit when it’s revealed he had an affair with Louise. Meanwhile, a man named Martin, real name Daniel Frick, turns up, claiming he’s been obsessed with Lejla’s story since childhood. But he’s just an imitator—he didn’t take Alicia. In the final twist, Lejla is drugged and taken captive again. The person responsible is her adoptive father, Valter—the real Ecki. He kidnapped her all those years ago and adopted her to maintain control. Now, he’s repeated the cycle with Alicia, hiding her right under everyone’s noses. Valter is arrested, but the damage is already done. Everything Lejla thought she knew about her past unravels, and the safe space she once called home turns out to be the very site of her trauma.
