RSVP Movies just dropped the trailer for their TIFF bound film ‘The Sky is Pink’ online. Featuring a come-back turn from Priyanka Chopra – last seen in 2016’s ‘Jai Gangajal’ (apart from a flurry of Hollywood productions), the film will release on October 11th. All set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival Shonali Bose’s film is about a loving couple as narrated by their daughter Aisha (Zaira Wasem).
The flipside of this cute romantic-comedy is the daughter who is dying because of Busulfan Lung Damage. Sold as a family film facing unpredictable tragedy, the trailer tries to be both undersell and oversell its illness conflict. Shonali Bose – who previously directed the wonderful ‘Margarita with a Straw‘, steps up to challenge of portraying illness in unconventional forms.

Narrated by Zaira Wasem – Who recently announced her retirement from acting after just two films (Dangal & Secret Superstar), The Sky Is Pink also stars Farhan Akhtar as the father and Rohit Saraf as Ishaan. This family drama is a quiet little love story between Panda and Moose played by Akhtar and Priyanka. While the story seems to be fleshed out from realistic situations, the narration and overall approach look a tad superficial. The casting seems perfect on paper, but the emotions don’t seem to flow out naturally.
Akhtar whose last good role was years ago seems to be there as a side character. Definitely told from the mother’s point of view, I’m not sure what range of emotions would Priyanka be able to bring out in a film that talks about the ups and downs in a life of a mother. The only good thing working for the film is a chance to be a tearjerker that would call up all the hanker-chief warriors out to play. Here’s hoping that The Sky is Pink turns out to be better than the trailer.
